BA Removed My Seat Reservation!?!?

Sat Apr 15, 2006 3:25 am

I am flying Club World LAX>LHR>HAM on May 4, 2006. I selected my seats online via ba.com. I selected upstairs as that's where I prefer to fly. Anyway, I was checking up on my reservation last night and noticed that on my flight back LHR>LAX my seat reservation upstairs vanished and that they now have me downstairs. What happened!?!? And what should I do about it?

Anyone have the loads for the LAX>LHR flight? Flight #278. Thanks.

What should you do? Call BA customer service and tell them exactly what you stated in your post.....I am sure that they will help you out if they can.

Flight BA278 on 4 May has more than 9 seats available in Club.

Pretty sure you arent 100% guaranteed to get the seats you request, but putting in a call to customer service wont hurt.

This is what happened to me on the same route in premium economy. We requested two sets of window seats, but when we came to check in online, all that was left was seats dotted around the PE cabin. We went to the normal check in at LAX and they gave us an upgrade to club world.

Obviously, the first thing any rational person would do is make a post in the a.net civil forum and hope someone from BA sees it. That would make a hell of a lot more sense than, I dunno...calling BA.

No, they won't.

I'm sure that if you check the carrier's conditions of carriage, you'll find that seat selections are not binding.

They may not be binding however they are very 'service recovery' focused!

Have you tried to get the original seat allocation back? Maybe the aircraft has changed?

Aren't we a complete jerk (I would use a more appropriate word but some people might be offended).

1. The purpose of my post was to see if this was a typical procedure for BA and see if anyone else had it happen to them.

2. The "First Class" comment was a joke in response to the other person posting about getting bumped up to Club.

Get a life.

Most likely your original seat was reasigned to a "FAM" (Federal Air Marshal). They often are given the upper deck of the 747 (and usually the exit row). That's the most likely reason, and while annoying, certainly not worth a complaint, as others have suggested!

Blue rarely and only if they have a full fare C class ticket. As for staff, well it's only possible if you're cockpit crew or company execs with seniority. All other staff can only get into C (unless you're doing a courier service in which case you could get F IF available).

With a thread header as above, it appears amazing that you have not mentioned the flight number of your 'affected' return flight! It would help a lot!

There are currently three BA flights a day LHRLAX with following configs:-

BA279 with 38J
BA283 with 70J
BA269 with 38J

As clearly stated on ba.com, seating is not confirmed, for any passenger unless prem or Bsnt or medical reqest, we can only put in rqst. If for some reason a prem books, or there is a config cng, broken seat, or some such thing seating will change, but ba.com does say seating is not guarenteed until check in

Sorry if I'm outta my tree, but didn't BA say sometime after 9/11 that they would resist any Government/CAA requirement for an Air Marshall? From that, I take it they still don't carry any.

(And why would any British Airline carry a "Federal" Marshall anyway)?

Good luck!

Radelow

I'm sorry to hear that you have been moved from the seats you wished to sit in, but as others have already pointed out, it was only made a seat request you made, not a seat booking. I hope that doesn't sound unsympathetic, because I do understand how annoying it can be, but sadly that is the reality of the situation. These requests are normally honoured, occasionally they are not.

In answer to your question, it doesn't happen very often, mainly because BA realises that it does irritate people who have taken the trouble to request particular seats in advance, when they are later moved elsewhere!

When it does happens, it can be for a variety of reasons, possibly the most likely is a different J class configuration in the aircraft now planned to operate this service to the one originally planned. I won't enter into any discussions regarding British Airway's security policies, but it certainly won't be because a Federal Air Marshall has taken your requested seat.

If you feel strongly about it, I would suggest calling BA Customer Service as soon as possible, and asking that your original seat request be honoured. They will help, if able, or at the least offer you some sort of explanation.

I hope you enjoy your trip, wherever you sit it in Club World; personally, I always have 60B on the LAX flights.  Wink

Regards

Radelow - just ring and ask??? The seat config cannot change on a 747-400 upper deck as they are all the same. The amount of Club seats does vary as they have both 38 and 70 configs. The 38s are due to start changing again but Club is always 20 upstairs. Perhaps if they cannot give you your original seat upstairs there may be another. I prefer upstairs to main deck any day!

Sorry about my lack of knowledge on this! Obviously, I should not be writing about a Federal Air Marshal outside of the US! My bad. And I didn't realize that BA does not have a similar program. I plead ignorance!

lol, had to check your profile based on that statement...figured that you were probably a pilot given that 60B is always blocked for crew rest on LAX flights.

That happened to a member of my family about two months ago, they had booked via a travel agent. It was on a 777 LHR-MIA (2-4-2) they specifically requested Premium Economy seats on the far left of the aircraft. When their confrimation came through it said they were right in the middle! They phoned the travel agent who said all other seats in Premium Economy were taken. But when they arrived at LHR they told the person on check-in what had happened and they got upgraded to Club World for free because of the inconvenience. It just BA are very good at that sort of thing.

The only thing any airline guarantees is the price. EVERYTHING else..seat assignments, aircraft type, meals, routings, even the actual day the transportation takes place is completely up to the airline.

Airline's generally have service plans that they try to live up to and will sometimes compensate a customer if the airline fails to meet their own plan, but they don't have to.

The "control" an airline gives a customer over their seating is an illusion. The airlines retains and never relinquishes the right to change seat assignments...or anything else.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

BA do go through phases of just moving seat assignments about. Splitting up families and groups on the same PNRs etc. It isn't common but it does happen.

Didn't someone on here BA0284 perhaps or someone report being upgraded C to F as a Blue on a mileage ticket. It happens. One thing you can't say about upgrades is XYZ person isn't going to get upgraded because sometimes closing the flight it is easier to upgrade Joe Bluecardholder than shifting Golds and Silvers around. Based on what I've heard from BA personnel anyways...
