DL Marine Air Terminal

Sat Apr 15, 2006 7:08 am

What are DL's plans for their LGA Marine Air Terminal? They've operated only Shuttle flights out of there for a while, but Connection service to DFW and ORD is now scheduled out of the MAT. And I noticed today that my flight to SRQ is leaving out of the terminal tomorrow.

Is DL going to push more mainline or Connection flights over to the terminal? They have six gates over there, so they have the room. While I like flying out of the MAT - the fast, easy departures and the various other perks, I'm worried that would all go south if more DL traffic is added to it.

Well they have the space and are just filling in flights that arrive and depart during the empty times, so they can maximize the MAT and ease congestion at Terminal A.

Is there an airside transfer between the main DL terminal at LGA and the Marine Air Terminal? Also, apart from the BOS, DCA and ORD flights, how are they publicizing which flights depart from the MAT?

There is a curbside shuttle between MAT and the main terminals.

Cool shot. Right below where it says "Delta Shuttle" and above the doors are a pair of globes with wings from a former airline that used to operate out of the Marine Air Terminal.  Smile

A few with it behind..

That's the way a terminal ought to look! So many airports built since the "golden era," (to what, the late 80's?) have zero architectural style inside and out. Too bad the clock is still not above the entrance. As a fan of mural art too, that WPA work is great! Now, if Delta can just get Boeing to build another flying boat...  scratchchin

To answer a few questions, there are Shuttle busses operated for DL between the MAT and the regular DL terminal. There are also airport operated Shuttle busses (Route A) between the MAT and all other LGA Terminals including DL's. And HVNandrew your LGA-SRQ flight is operated by a DL Shuttle MD88 that would otherwise be idle on a Saturday. In the past DL would taxi the aircraft over to the Main DL terminal on Saturday morning, I guess now DL is trying this method instead. My guess is many of the SRQ passenger will be at the wrong terminal and come running over to the MAT !

For anyone who has never seen the inside of the MAT it is a real step back in time and worth a visit. All the original historic area's are before security so you do NOT need to fly the DL shuttle to see that part !

Cheers

The Marine air terminal is one of the best ways to fly into and out of NYC. When flying through there, it reminds me of how flying used to be....

Couldn't agree more LGA - the landside area in the MAT is superb.... and easily missed if one is in a hurry. Once airside, the Marine air terminal is just concrete...
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Actually Delta operates out of the D Terminal in LaGuardia.

Thanks for the great pictures.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but do those jetways ramp up from the ground level instead of coming out from level 2? Looks like it.

The jetways connect to level 2.

The jetways connect to level 2.

Once you clear security you walk up a gently sloped ramp to the gate area which is elevated. Downstairs are the crew lounges, etc.

I thought it looked like some type of ramp.
Thanks.
