BA Connect @ Belfast City

Can someone tell me why BA Connect have chosen to operate Embraer 145s to bHX from BHD, yet stuck to Dash 8s for their MAN services?

Also, surely there would be a market now for them to start at least a twice daily BHD - LHR service? When I travel BHD to anywhere using BA, I always have to change twice, at MAN and LHR and it's a [pain. And no, I choose not to fly BMI for my own reasons!

Belfast flights went after 9-11 as BA said they weren't profitable. Like BD, at that time they went to International rather than City. I don't think you'll see BA return anytime soon to BHD, as it doesn't have the slots available to operate the multiple frequency flights that would be required to attract business people. Saying that, I'm surprised BHD doesn't get a 3/4 times daily service to LGW, even if with BA Connect, that would provide a mix of business passengers and leisure ones that could connect to the LGW flights.

LON-BHD (or BFS) on BA Connect wouldn't work. BD will have got all the connecting traffic through LHR now and the new Air Berlin service will further reduce the yields between Belfast and London.

Basically, after the way BA manipulated pulling out of BFS-LHR, the general feeling is that both the NI travel industry and travelling public will never allow them back on a London route. As for LGW, both BHD and BFS are well served to/from there by committed airlines.

Although BA pulled out of BFS-LON, and the general feeling is that oneworld has very little potential in Northern Ireland, I could see Aer Lingus starting up a LCC base in Belfast flying to LHR to connect to BA's long-haul network.
