Hi Alex,

as far as I know:

Conviasa: Recently started CCS-MAD-CCS 2xweekly with A342 codesharing with UX. There seem to be some aircraft orders and a 767 sitting ex-UA sitting in the desert for months now.
Avior: Shows some new destinations on their website. But nobody knows if this is going to happen and with which equipment (EZE, FLL, PTY, SDQ, SAO)
Santa Barbara: Announced the start of operations to BOG and VVI as well as to Lisbon.
Aeropostal: Finishing the setup for the start of MAD operations scheduled to start in June 4xweekly with 763. Together with this launch the start of operations to PTY and SJO as well as codeshares to UIO/GYE with AeroGal. In case of US-CAT I upgrade: IAH, FLL, ATL, SJU and PM-MIA.
Aserca: Currently suffering under maintenance problems. But announced US-routes in case of upgrade: BRM/PZO/BLA-MIA.

In general: The whole Venezuelan airline industry is waiting for FAA decision about the CAT I upgrade (probably to happen last week of this month). If it does NOT happen, than Venezuelan airlines will fall into a big crisis as they will have to stop their US-services...... Because if there is no upgrade Venezuelan INAC will cut US-airlines schedules to Venezuela and FAA announced that in this case they will forbid Venezuelan carriers access to the US completely.

AeroGal: Planning to start UIO/GYE-MIA service with 757 and UIO/GYE-NYC with 767. As Ecuador is CAT II this will be through their US-sister company.

If I recall something else I'll post.

Hey Chiguire, which airline is or will be AeroGal's US sister company? Are they really going to codeshare with a US airline?? From what I have heard, they want to start flying with their own metal, and are waiting for the FAA to upgrade Ecuador to CAT 1, since I have also heard that Ecuador should be upgraded to CAT 1 in the near future too.... But since all I hear are "rumors", if you have some more concrete information, I would kindly appreciate it..

They say they have a company registered under the same name "AeroGal" in the US. And this is the airline that will operate their flights "AeroGal USA".

Umm, nothing is for certain as of now. I have a meeting with AEROGAL this monday. How about we wait and see what they say. And the idea is 757 so fa, no 767. (from the last I spoke with them)

And last, when will CONVIASA fly to Ecaudor as they offered LONG ago? I also see that as something that they said, but will enver happen  Sad

My information was a 757 for MIA and a 767 for NYC. But please let us know what they tell you.

Hola Alex!
The EZE-MIA flights of LAN Arg. were supposed to start on Dec. 1st 2005, but because LAN was not able to get any LV registered 767's on time those flights were suspended ... well, they never began actually. There were talks that they would start next month, but yesterday in fact, I met with someone that works for LAN in Chile that news over there is that the flights will start in June, or July at the latest. However, as I have mentioned in other threads about this topic, I won't believe it until I see it!
The same goes for the arrival of the A320's & A319's for LAN Argentina domestic flights!  Wink

CM is about to start daily flights to 5 new destinations this year from its PTY hub: STI, POS, MAO, MVD and SAP.

Whenever - if in the very near future - CM will start flights to YYZ, MTY, AUA/CUR, MAR, VVI, ASU, COR, GIG, BZE, KIN (upgrade to daily), SAL (the additional daily stopped by the Salvadorean Government last December) and additional PAP flights; I've no idea, rightnow it's pure speculation.
I would guess CM someday will have to fly themselves to SFO (or OAK!), LAS, ORD, IAD (or BWI), BOS and maybe TPA, FLL in the U.S.A.; plus SSA, BSB, POA, CNF in Brazil - because their codeshare agreements with CO respective Gol won't be attractive enough for passengers travelling to/from those cities.
I don't work for COPA Airlines!

Alex, concerning to Brazil i imagine RG is all the times on the news so i will only talk about GOL and TAM.

GOL... i started last week a thread on their HUGE expansion plan: GOL Update (by LipeGIG Apr 11 2006 in Civil Aviation)#ID2712576

SCL is one of the next destinations, probably from POA.
EZE will be upgraded and Gol will provide a daily flight GIG-EZE (on the weekend the flight will stop at CFB , yes first jet service to the new airport of Cabo Frio)

TAM... they will start FOR-BEL-MAO-MIA with an A320 (with 2 classes). Seasonal services to Bariloche, Buenos Aires and Germany will be provided by Tam during the next 2 months.
Also, they upgraded SCL from A320 to A332.

Avianca: currently receiving its third Fokker-100.

Complementing this information about AVIANCA:

- It will receive another 7 F-100 in the upcoming months and two simulators.
- It will invest US$ 6 million on its leased terminal in BOG (Puente Aereo)
- It will select the type of aircrafts for the renewal of its fleet for 2010 on September of this year. Both Airbus and Boeing were in Bogota presenting their proposals.
- AV adopted Amadeus Electronic Ticket Server (ETS) for their online ticketing. Also it implemented the "Self-Ticketing" stations in the most important airports in Colombia.
- it was announced that MM will definitely be "absorbed" by AV in order to minimize some operational and accounting costs. We have seen the disappearance of the big SAM titles and the remaining livery from the planes but nothing else yet.
- It started services to IBE and NVA (two intermediate cities southwest from BOG)

Other Airlines in Colombia:

- 9N* announced US$3 million investment and the possibility to start other international routes. No further information about it yet.
- 4C increased the frequency to daily flights to AXM, UIB and VVC
- P5* announced the purchase of 5 new EMB-190 an investment of (US$175 millions).
- P5* was included on CO's FF program "One Pass".

*The A.Net editor doesn't recognize P5=Aerorepublica and 9N= Satena
I miss ACES, I am proud of AVIANCA & I am loyal to AMERICAN

Hola Cedars!

Also regarding CM, they have firm orders for 10 more E-190's of which 4 are scheduled to arrive this year. They still hold options for 18 more.

They are also scheduled to receive two more 737-700's this year and as far as I remember they have confirmed orders for 5 more (deliveries starting in 2007) and 10 in options.

Saludos,

When did they start this service? And where is it coming from? MAO? BRA? I have always thought that only RG flew into BVB at midnight and that is the only flight. And that is why the flight was always filled to the rim of people. Im pretty sure RG gave standing room space as well on this flight  Wink

Alex,

I am not too sure on what the plans are for South America for CM. As far as I know, the flight limits to Colombia are maxed out; the frequency to CCS was tough to get a few years back & I am not aware of expansions to the agreement; CM has approval to 14 frequencies to Argentina & the potential to go to other cities other than Buenos Aires.

Panama has revised bilateral agreements with Mexico, Paraguay, Argentina & Canada in the last year. I would assume that with the new E-190s coming in & replacing some -700 routes, that this will free the 700s for other (longer) routes. Probably 2travel2know or luisca have more insight than me, but I would guess that there will be plans to go to Canada, Mexico and/or to Paraguay in the near future.

Those are my 2 cents...

When did they start this service? And where is it coming from? MAO? BRA? I have always thought that only RG flew into BVB at midnight and that is the only flight. And that is why the flight was always filled to the rim of people. Im pretty sure RG gave standing room space as well on this flight

About 1 month ago. it's an extension of flight 1852. The service begins on GIG with stops at BSB and MAO.

Gol Flight 1852
GIG 1905 BSB MAO BVB 0059 (+1)

Gol Flight 1853
BVB 0135 MAO BSB GIG 0920

Varig in the past runs 2 flights to BVB due to the need of cargo and pax, with Gol they reduced for a single flight. Both flights keep high loads and yields!

Thank you LipeGIG. Much appreciated. I went on GOL's airline sight to check it out. I will have to try to fly them this summer then into BVB. So is the GOL flight arriving just after the RG flight?

Yes, this is from Infraero website (www.infraero.gov.br) . If you click on
"voos on line" you can check the arrivals for any infraero airport (including BVB)

Gol 1852 Rio de Janeiro - Galeão-RJ 19/04/2006 01:05 01:05 1 Brasília

Might be off topic a bit, but will we see Gol or TAM move into BVB sense RG is such on a decline? RG is the only airline to fly into BVB via MAO one time a day.

What air service does Boa Vista get?

I think there's a nice market for a weekly or 2X nonstop DC9/MD80 Boa Vista- Margarita Island.

Every time I visit Margarita, I see dozens of cars with Boa Vista plates. It must take them at least 2 days on the road to reach Margarita Island. I'm sure they will appreciate the flight.

It would be nice if they could get a day time jet in there. Well isnt the name of Boa Vistas airport International? What international airline flys into there? I am asumeing maybe just smaller planes bringing mail or something? I do like that airport a lot though. Everyone in one smaller building. Standing on the balcony watching your flight coming in. And walking out on the tar mac to get to your 737. Its great!

Dear fellows, just if the Venezuelan aviation consolidates
more... And, if ConViasa stays in the right direction, why
not to revert the company to it's orinal name: VIASA.

If you bring VIASA back from the dead, you will absorb a huge debt with its retired employees plus any other debts the airline left when it finished operations. You would have to hire back any employee wishing to return to the airline and respect their seniority.

I think it will be too much trouble to deal with that. Maybe there's a legal way to just keep the name and not the company that died in 1997 but I ain't no lawyer so I don't know if its possible.

CM has a big aircraft availability problem, load factors are close to 95% on some routes, this is unacceptable because it translates to frequent oversells and also their high aircraft utilization means that a small problem can cause severe ripple effects on the entire network, for example when a hurricane hit Puerto Rico last year (or Tropical storm not sure) the plane that got stuck there caused cancellations for the following two days on routes like PTY-TGU and PTY-UIO, etc. Also Wilma hit Miami and the effect was that there was no space to fly out stranded passengers when flights resumed because most flights were 95-100% full.

My point is that airplanes and crews are overworked, there is also a severe pilot shortage in Panama, a CM pilot is flying a lot of overtime every month and they are not to happy about the pay, so problems in one area are causing problems in every other and worker satisfaction is very low, especially seeing the bad deal that the mechanics got recently.

As soon as more E190s come on line these problems should start to diminish
CM will upgrade CUN to daily and possibly replace the 73G for a E190 and deploy the 73G on other routes.

They hold rights to ASU, COR (this one is iffy), VVI, LPB but no launch dates have been announced, again the introduction of the E190s will allow them to have more 73Gs available for longer routes to new destinations in South America and I guess as soon as it become clear how they can fly the routes they will be announced

Regarding US flights I think in the close future MCO will be increased to Daily as they hold a virtual monopoly in this route. Also JFK and LAX could be increased to double daily in the near future.

As for new routes expect YYZ, IAD, PVR and MTY (pending bilateral negotiations), MBJ, PUJ to be added in the future, but this is all speculation, except for YYZ that is almost certain, as Canada represents the third largest source of tourist to Panama after the US and Spain.

P5 is a different story, their load factors for march were abysmal, only 46% and they are still having problems modernizing the airline, this airline was so sloppily run, they had accounting problems, lack of E-Tickets, terrible FF program, and inconsistent service, so it will take some time until P5 is up to the excellent quality we have come to expect from CM.

Rumors are that CM is starting to get worried about the performance of P5 and they want to absorb them into the CM brand image as soon as possible to get rid of the negative image associated with AeroRepublica. Rumors are that the new E190s will be painted in full CM colors and apart from the lack of clase ejecutiva, a small acknowledgement like operado por AeroRepublica etc and the HK aircraft registration you wont be able to tell the difference between a CM and a P5 plane.
If it ain't Boeing (or Embraer ;-)) I ain't Going!

Hello Luis... Regarding post #39, yes; a company could do it. As far as I
know would be in the form of an LLC (limited liability company). As you
said, this is upon the legal field, so not much familiarized with this too.
Anyway, I think is a veeeeeeery complicate matter. Ah, I'm one of the
"lucky" ones; VIASA owes me $2000.00!
