Champion Air At PHL

Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:53 am

What kind of operation does Champion have at PHL? They don't use any gates, but everyday i see at least one, sometimes two, 727's parked at Atlantic Aviation on the Enterprise Ave. side of the airport.

Champion is big into charters, so maybe the planes you are seeing are not regularly scheduled flights. Champion has 10 727-200's in all Y seating, and 6 727-200's in a VIP configuration, so maybe the aircraft you're seeing are VIP charters?? I wouldn't know the extent of the operation they have in and out of PHL, though.

Champion also contracts out their aircraft sometimes. See this thread: Check It Out, Con Air Flight Loading

They've been in and out of PDX fairly frequently for a while now, running military charters.

They have the contract for the 76ers and for numerous away teams playing the 76ers. They may also have the contract for the Flyers, but I'm not sure about that. In addition, they have the contract for the Wizards, so you'll see them at Dulles frequently as well.

Champion has a contract with the NBA to fly teams around the country.

I know the people who do the catering for the Champion/NBA flights in MSP, they can have a plane come in need to be de-catered and re-catered at the same time or with just a few hours time. Skyfood people sure run their butts off for them, and do a Top Notch job. Yes I said Skyfood, it is not LSG SkyChief.

The NBA food is the best I have seen this guys but onboard.

Champion also does the Minnesota Twins baseball team.

i know they do charter work, but to why are they at PHL so much? Having at least one or two planes parked at PHL everyday makes me think it's more than sports teams.
