New Airbus A310-300 For Air Transat!

Mon Apr 17, 2006 3:59 pm

Hi!

Just a short information saying that with the arrival of the A330-200 for TAP the A310-300 is starting to beeing phase-out. The first one to go is CS-TEZ and the new operator will be Air Transat. The canadian registration will be:

C-DTSF

Are you sure it'll be C-DTSF? Most Canadian registrations are C-FXXX or C-GXXX. Still good for TS though, I wonder if they'll be opening up any new routes this summer.

Is Air Transat really looking for Airbuses 310? Why is that so, do they have routes that are too small for A330? I know RO had two A310 on storage (used for OTP-JFK and OTP-Canada) maybe Air Transat could buy them.

Air Transat needs spare rudders for the existing fleet  Smile
More seriously, A310s are ok for the Caribbeans both in terms of range and capacity. And their fleet is based on the A310.
And a fully serviced and operational A310 from TAP is most probably cheaper/safer than to overhaul one from long storage.

Well RO A310s are PW powered, and TS 313 are GE. May be wrong, but I don't think it would be a good move to add a third type of engine to its fleet. The 330 are RR powered.

Hi FCKC and Jayce!

Well let me back off a bit...you guys might be right....it could be actually C-GTSF....and this because if the registration was transmited by phone the G and the D can make confusion...and if the sequence of Air Transat is F or G you could be right!!!
I'll try to feedback that information ASAP and sorry for this confusion!

Why is that so, do they have routes that are too small for A330

Most of the summer European routes such as MAN, HAM, TLS, EXT etc would not make economic sense with the 360+ seat A330s. The aircraft is also a good size for some of their secondary departure points such as in western Canada to sun destinations. However, there have been quite a few problems including that one with the majority of a rudder being ripped off near Cuba.

Nevertheless, I will be flying TS transatlantic on the A310 for the first time this year, and I'm not really looking forward to it (I'm 6'4"), but Zoom was sold out and TS was much cheaper than any other option connecting through the continent. AC only has half-assed service for a few months in the summer to Manchester.

Its not just for Air Transat, its for every aircraft in Canada, from Schweizer gliders to the Airbus A340-500. Some older aircraft were registered CF-XXX but now they are all C-FXXX or C-GXXX.

MAN see's the A330s almost daily in the summer.#
But you are right about the likes of EXT, EDI and NCL

Hmmm....they usually use the 332 to YYC and YVR from MAN, and occasionally to YYZ

If you cant get the extra legroom seats, get row 25, the two next the window if you know what i mean, its where the shape of the fusalage changes and the legroom is great there.  Smile

WTF??? 363 seats on an a332??? Damn!! That must be some cramped-ass seating!!! Can't imagine being cooked up in an aircraft like that for 10 hours or something.

That's normal for charter airlines. Pretty much all of the A330s operated by UK charters - MyTravel, Thomas Cook and Monarch - have 360+ seats, with 2-3-2 in the premium cabin (on Monarch it's rows 1-7 IIRC) and 3-3-3 in cattle class.

When I first saw the thread title I thought that Airbus had managed to keep the A310 line active. Also never give up on AI acquiring more 'tubbies' to its huge fleet of A310's.

Wow amazing. I can hardly imagine. KLM has the a332's in a 250 pax confix, that's more than 100 pax extra!!! BA and CX have about the same amount of pax on a 744!

Really? The Air Transat website shows A310-300s for the whole summer, both the nonstop flights and the few (like mine) that go through Glasgow.

Actually C-IXXX is valid as well, and is reserved for ultralights.

Also, you can still carry CF-XXX registration on your aircraft if it is a "vintage" aircraft, or if it is an aircraft registered before 1974. In the latter case however, if it is not a vintage aircraft, the registration must be changed to C-FXXX at the next repainting.

As an aside, a couple of years ago at the Haines Juntion, Yukon airport, I saw a small aircraft carrying the CF-XXX registration. It musn't have ever had a new paint job.

If my experience buying my three most recent aircraft is any guide, it often takes a while for the TC database to get updated after a transaction.

At least that was the case for me in all three instances. I was coming up against the 90 day limit for the provisional CofR and had to call to get them to move their tushies.

I thought TK would get rid of theirs after all the 330s arrive, but I learnt here that they are the workhorse, and will be kept for a long time. They fly them to Central Asia, Europe or domestic. Even after that they might be converted to cargo.
