The reason that they will stay until 2011 is because all 5 active 743's have undergone D check recently in the last 12-18 months or so. I'd agree though that the first aircraft will probably leave in 2009 and the last in 2011.

Interstingly the timetable is showing two different scheduled times for QF21 to leave SYD: 2140 on 2, 5 & 7 and 2210 on 1, 3, 4 & 6. All with an arrival time at NRT of 0635 the next morming. Could the half hour time diffrence be that B743 operate on 1, 3, 4 & 6 and A330 on 2, 5 & 7?
Yup exactly that! The 743 runs 4 days and the A333 the other 3, back to daily 743's from July 1st I think it is.

They use them up to India a lot as they have a high seat count and it is a lower revenue service.
They no longer fly the 743 to India, they use the A333 which operates SYD
They only fly
4 weekly daily from July 1st again.
From April 27th till early June they will operate the MEL
flight 3 times a week while the 744's are out for scheduled maintanence.
Still other routes like BNE
that used to get the 743 now get the A333 simply because it has Skybed and the 743 doesn't.
Not a great lot of use for 5 aircraft though 1 is an operational spare usually with EBU
They still fly the Tasman from time to time to AKL
, currently none scheduled but they do pop in every now and then.
