LH, How Many "football Nose"?

Thu Apr 20, 2006 3:49 pm

Dear all,

I was wondering on how many aircraft did LH put the "football nose"? I have seen a B737-500 today in BSL with this livery.

Regards,
HBDAN
Next flight: hopefully soon...

As far as I know, they are planning to have 100% of the fleet repainted before the world cup. And that's in 6 weeks.

Aren't they going to have one aircraft with a "Real" special livery promoting the World Cup? I think they could put a little more effort into it, on one aircraft at least.

Something like this

Painting an aircraft in full world cup livery is nothing about effort.
It's all about being allowed to do it or not being allowed.
Lufthansa is not allowed to do this.

I think because LH is not the official airline for the World Cup. Emirates is the official partner (you can see some of their aircraft with the World Cup logo).

They're not the official airline of the world cup, I believe Emirates is?

No, they talked about 29 planes getting this nose. A shame only Airbus and Boeing got them - never saw an Avro or CRJ wearing this nose and doubt we'll ever see.

I flew on D-AIGS on 7 August this past year from IAH-FRA only about a week after it was first applied. It was also the first LH plane to wear the football (soccer) nose design. I was pleasantly surprised to see the design as I boarded the plane not knowing what it was for.

I'm not completely sure about that. I think I remember seeing a CRJ with the football nose on Sunday. I might have not been remembering that correctly though, but I think I remember seeing it.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

agree with Deltawings, something more "real" ,more obvious would have been nice. This little football-nose is a typical LH-thing. Very cheap, less cost and pretty easy to re-paint.
Certainly LH is not allowed to use the FIFA logo etc etc, however QF for example, they have painted a 767 in nice coulours , supporting the aussie soccer team. so why not LH doing similiar..!?

That was my same reaction when I saw it. I flew it on the 30 August from ACC/LOS to FRA. I didnt notice it when boarding because it was at night but I took a look at it when getting off and saw the soccer nose.
I like it, its a nice simple promotion for World cup.

I saw a 321 with the "football nose" at DUB two days ago. At first I thought it looked ugly, but it grew on me.

To try to answer the original question, at least for the Airbus fleet, there are:

- 3 A319 D-AILH/T/U
- 7 A320 D-AIPA/D/W and D-AIQF/L/M/R
- 2 A321 D-AISC/E
- 2 A330 D-AIKI/J
- 7 A340 D-AIFA and D-AIGL/S/T/U/V/W

I have no idea as far as the Boeing fleet is concerned.

No, it's not. It must be a cheap ploy to get some publicity out of the World Cup even though they didn't pay for the privilege. Must pee them off that a foreign carrier is the "Official Airline of the World Cup" who's not even from the host nation!

I flew on D-AIPA a few months ago (just after it got the nose) took some getting used to looking at it!

Emirates have paid $195M to be the Official FIFA Airline until 2014. So we should congratulate LH for finding

because, of course, it would have been LH's customers and not LH themselves who would have hgad to (indirectly) pay FIFA.

Lufthansa are not the only German airline who have found a low cost way to leverage publicity from this year's World Cup:

Other airlines are sponsors of their national team, paying no doubt much less than Emirates' FIFA spomsorship:

Earlier tonight, the flight arriving at LIS from FRA (and leaving for FRA in the morning), was operated by A300-600 and it had a football nose. Didn't get the reg#, though.

right, already forgot about the Puma/Soccer livery of DBA. I think they did the best and even got some money from Puma for their advertising.

Many of the 319s and 320s that are now decorated with footballs were serving for Germanwings before, so they were in need of a repaint anyway. Talks are already about 45 noses with nobody really knowing how many it will be at the end...

I have seen them at GVA, FRA and ZRH but have yet to see one at my homebase BSL... Wink
