Lufthansa AB6 (A300) At BKK, Why?

Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:30 am

Why was their an Lufthansa A300 (D-AIAL) in BKK on the 16th Feb 2006?

I noticed a pic over at pp.net.

Was it flying as a last minute change, or a charter?

Maybe an extra flight to fly all the stranded PADs out. A friend of mine is a Purser with LH and wrote yesterday that they have some 80 PADs listed for the Frankfurt flight....

Sorry dude but you can't be serious. Do you really think that LH (or any other airline in this world) is sending an AB6 - a plane in a 280 seat configuration - to BKK to fly stranded PADs out???

PAD?= Passenger Available for Disembarkation, those are all the unhappy airline employees (like me sometimes) who travel on staff (standby) tickets. They have the advantage of flying for a very low fare but sometimes, and in particular in the case of Bangkok, spend a couple of days in or near the airport, hoping to catch a flight back home.

I was actually joking about this as I got stranded there myself in March and heard that story of the 80 people waiting to get home today.

Just read in another forum that apparently LH send their A300s for maintenance to Thai sometimes and that might have been the reason here.

Yes they do maintenance down there. I saw one last year sometime and it apparently not unusual.
