PHX is served by AM only, and usually a 737 or MD80. I always felt this was a 757 route. Very glad to see Mexicana looking at PHX.

With Mexicana serving different cities than AeroMexico there should be room for both of them to be successful in PHX.

There is enough room for AM, MX and US/HP out of PXH.

True, but HP will have the upper hand with its available connections in PHX. I've flown many times SFO/SMF/OAK-PHX-MEX and always with good fares. Good luck to them.

Sweet!!! Finally more variety at PHX. So far that would be just BA, AM, AC, and MX as far as foreign carriers are concerned in PHX, right?

Any word on the inaugural flight? Is this the first time MX has flown to PHX?

It seems like the Mexican Market is underserved out of PHX, it is nice to see that PHX will get a new carrier.

Yes, (as far as I know). Phoenix as well as Tucson are traditional routes of Aeronaves de Mexico operated since the the 60s.

I didn't know there was much need for PHX-GDL since I know that much of the Mexican community around the area is from the state of Sonora and Sinaloa (the Northern Mexican Pacific)

And, I concur with what SFOMEX said given that America West used to send their regional Express subsidiary to many Mexican destinations like GDL. My parents have connected in PHX on a flight from GDL to ATL, where they live because American cactus was the cheapest option.

I would think so, large Mexican population in PHX area. On the flip side Mexican destinations in Baja and on the Pacific are popular with southwest US residents in general, like the Bahamas to MIA/FLL type of deal. I guess they don't want to go against HP on the PHX-SJD run.

From my experiences on MX, service is great, all drinks are comped, and you get a hot meal on a medium haul run in coach.

Its about time MX applied to PHX. Great to see MX expand the number of cities they fly into the U.S.  hyper

I can see MX operating daily MEX and GDL flights, while BJX will be like a 2X or 3X weekly service.

And Hughes Airwest.
Some of their old routes

PHX-GYM-PVR
PHX-LAP-PVR
PHX-MZT-GDL
PHX-SJD-MZT
PHX-PVR-GDL
PHX-TUS-MZT-GDL
PHX-TUS-SJD-ZLO

When assumed by RC, only the MZT, ZLO and PVR routes remained...for a little while, before it was whittled down to only PVR-MEM-MSP.

AM used to fly from HMO through its regional carrier AeroLitoral. They have now started mainline flights from MEX non-stop, right? Perhaps soon will be the time to schedule a shopping trip to Phoenix... with three carriers serving this route, I am sure that we will see killer fares.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Very Interesting. I think it was also the old Frontier that had a very similar route network extending into Mexico back in the days. I rememeber seeing an old Frontier sign at Guadalajara airport in the 80s, long after they had been absored into United.

Those where the days when flying to the Mexican Riviera was seen as an exotic thing...

The routings of those FL flights were quite laborious, sometime 3 stops from Denver...

All flights were DEN-ABQ-ELP-XXX-XXX.

MX new owners plan to get agressive on the Mexican beach destinations presenting really cool offers to US travellers by combining airplane plus hotel. They have the airline and the have hotels.

Part of the plan includes several new routes from CUN, ACA, SJD, CZM, PVR & MZT to major USA cities. They are pretty sure bitting USA carriers will be easy because MX will offer better Airplane plus Hotel rates, and better flight services than any other USA airline.

True. Mexico is known around the world for its beaches, and they want to exploit that.

However, they need to promote more cities with rich cultural history and architecture, like Queretaro, Puebla, Morelia and Leon. Mexico has more to offer foreign tourists. It always bothered me when people think of Mexico, they think beach.

Don't count on this being a sure thing. Mexican airlines apply for rights all the time just to have them. Examples are numberous...AeroMexico to IAD, CLE, PHL, and DTW; Mexicana to DTW and CLT, as well as QRO/TLC-MIA/LAX/SAT. I wouldn't rule it out entirely, but it is far from a sure thing.

CUL-LAX and PVR-LAX seem to me like very wise moves given the demise of JR. As for MEX-DFW, let's just hope that MX can make it work... it should because of the AA codeshare, but the reason why AM abandoned DFW was not only AA's stiff competition, but the cost of operating in the new International Terminal.

More over, new routes from QET will follow this year and many more, hopefully we have more news on July 06 after the election @ MX 85th anniv event! With the arrival of more Fk.100s into QA, MX will be able to free several buses and place them in these new routes.
