Monarch Incident At MAN 21st April

Sat Apr 22, 2006 4:35 am

I arrived at the viewing park at about 6.30pm - a Monarch 757 was receiving attention from the fire service and other vehicles on the taxiway adjacent to 06R. After a while it was towed to the apron. Does anyone know what happened?

I was leaving MAN at around 1815 with Dazultra, got up to Level 13 in the T1 car park to pick the car up which is when I noticed the Monarch 757 out on the taxiway.

Sadly I didn't have my 75-300mm lens or DSLR with me, so me and Daz improvised with 20P, one of those blue telescopes and the 1.3MP camera phone! Check it.

Don't actually know what it was all about though!

You lads deserve a medal purely for initiative!

Anybody know what was actually wrong with it?

Aircraft was G-MOND - it had operated the ZB516/ZB517 to/from Barcelona this morning and then went out as the ZB757T for a training sortie at SNN for a couple of hours and coming back, it developed some kind of hydraulic problem necessitating the use of a tug to shift it to the main apron; it called up as "Pan" MON757T.

Twas the 2nd time today that the fire crews were at a level of increased awareness following a flyby by SUS45U in the morning to confirm that the left main undercarrige was down - all observers reported it down (including the bmibaby flight which landed 5 mins previously and was asked by ATC to look out).

Does the 757 have the extra legroom seats in the forward cabin? Monarch charges for extra legroom seats on scheduled services but I thought they were only available on the Airbus fleet.

The A321 has extra legrrom at the front, not sure about the 757 though. Cramped in economy, I know that!
