USAirways Backs Off BOS-BUF Route...

Sat Apr 22, 2006 11:00 am

After stating that they would add additional flights on the BOS-BUF route in response to JetBlue's arrival in the market....

USAirways has removed the additional BOS-BUF flights and is only going to be flying 3 RJ's per day.... (and less on weekends)....

I guess they decided that with only 150 passengers per day (on average) flying between those markets currently, SO many new flights would not be necessary....

Very interesting, and even surprising as those additional flights weren't supposed to start until June. Nevertheless, it's nice to see that they aren't throwing capacity in a needless fashion. I bet this has something to do with fuel at $75/bbl.

I knew this was gonna happen. 7 daily jungle jets is too much for that market IMO.  Smile

I agree, even if they are RJs, there are still better ways to utilize them than flooding a single market.

Maybe they are going to use the aircraft in PIT and CLT now that jetBlue is moving into both markets.

US Airways now has B6 and/or WN at PHL, PIT, and CLT!

PHL-WN
PIT-B6 and WN
CLT-B6 (hopefully soon to be WN)

I wish the best of luck to US in CLT!

As a BUF denizen, I can say on paper the idea sounds great, but to people it's not very good. Us Buffaloians need choices in the BOS market  Cool

Smart move by US !

With the price of oil going up, let B6 lose the money on this
route. Higher prices will mean higher ticket prices...which will
lead to a decrease in demand. Adding capacity in this current
environment does not make much sense right now. US should
use this aircraft on more profitable possibilties.

3 RJ flights per day is enough for US (remember: B6's E-190s carry
twice as many pax than an ERJ or a CRJ). Plus, there's plenty of
connection possibilities with US at BOS for a flight to/from BUF.
fly high, pay low...Germanwings!

Quoting PSA727 (Reply 6):

They sholdn't lose money on this route. They are going for over priced routes now that have potwential. B6 has build up in BOS and BUF so it is a good route for them to do. It should be great.
