Has Anyone Flown On The Shorts 330 Or 360?

Sun Jun 11, 2000 4:12 pm

It was recently discussed how ugly these planes are on the outside (shoebox with wings), and I'm just wondering if anyone has ever flown on one or the other? If so, are they as bad inside as out? Are they loud, rickety, uncomfortable, or maybe the just the opposite? Just wondering!

Hi. I flew a SH360 from Guernsey to Gatwick in 1992 of CityFlyer. Although it was not presurised the trip was nice, of course a little bit lazzy but in terms of flying was ok. Not too noisy and the fact that the plane as high wing gives you the chance to see the ground in those big windows. I could also see the engine too!

I flew on a SH360 last year from Funchal to Porto Santo.
The flight was nice despite the noise. The seats were comfortable and the crew was very nice. The airline was Aerocondor, a Portuguese airline!!!
It was lovely and I want to repeat this flight!!!

Best regards,

I have flown on a Gill Air 330 when Aer Lingus wet leased it back in 1988.I flew on Aer Lingus commuter 360s and also on Manx 360s.They were ok to fly on the big windows were great and noise wise they were not too bad .I liked the Shorts and it is a welcome site to see Aer Arrann flying them out of Dublin on domestic routes. They are even flying an ex Aer Lingus aircraft EIBPD.

I have flown on Bahamasair's 360s quite a few times. despite being slow, they are very roomy and I felt more than comfortable, as for the noise, well what do you expect, it's not a Q300.

I have flown on them a few times from ORD-CWA (Central Wisc. Airport) and back on American Eagle.....Once on Christmas Day...in the ice and snow. Not very comforting to see about a half inch of snow on the wing struts...quite bumpy flights. Another time in August, flying CWA to ORD in thunderstorms!! My gosh...never been so afraid in my life! The little plane does not ride well in turbulence, although it was SIGNIFICANT turb.. It was scary, I like flying but i had my sick bag out! Little kids were crying and the atmosphere all together was very tense...I did however have a nice flight another time from CWA to ORD...sunny day until we got to the decent into Chicago...hit some puffy cumulus and made a HUGE drop coming out of one of them, lol, everyone on the plane went "Wooooooooooo" They are quite noisy also.

I remember having flown on the Shorts 330 in Alberta, when Time Air (now part of Canadian Regional) used to have some in its fleet back in the '70s and very early '80s. I flew on them mainly between YXD (Edmonton City Centre Airport) and Grande Prairie. They were loud, but the seats were a bit big to me, as I was a young boy no older than 11 when I last flew on them. Then they were replaced by Dash 7s, which in turn were replaced by the Dash 8 in the late '80s.

Time Air also had Shorts 360s (until '95) for use on flights out of YVR to destinations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, which is the stretch of mainland BC's coast right across the water from Vancouver Island. I've never flown on one, but I did see them at YVR.

I flew on a Piedmont Commuter 360 from Charlotte to Kinston NC back in December of 1988. The flight was little more than one hour long. The flight was comfortable and uneventful. The flight attendant provided the usual drinks and snacks. The toilet was only a little smaller than one found on a jet. I had chosen a seat on the first row which was not the best choice as the pre-flight announcements could not be heard once the props were turning. Other than that the plane is a good one.
