EK/EI Code Shares?

Tue Apr 25, 2006 2:25 am

Hi!
I went to Dubai this Easter with Aer Lingus, I was expecting a mention from the crew about the connecting routes with EK like they do when flying to the US with the code shares on AA but there was nothing.
EI signed a deal with EK on 21 code share routes but there is no mention on the EI website and even in Dubai there was nothing, all I saw was a good few EK and EI staff walking around together.
Does anyone know what the routes are or does anyone want to have a guess what they could be?

Wow I would have thought someone would have an idea. Anyway I think one of them is Singapore and the others could be HongKong and Bangkok.
Anymore?

Hi ..

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for advertising on the subject. It wont be a code-share, but just a general partnership, promoting the benefits of routing through DXB, utilising the two carriers.

Destinations that will be promoted include: BKK/SIN/JNB/HKG/PER/SYD/MEL/BNE/MLE/MRU.

I could take a fair guess on what the routes may be but I dont think that this is the way that EI should be going. There are rumours they will launch their own routes to Asia next year (one or two of HKG, SIN, BKK the most likely). If they want these highly competitive routes to work I dont know if EI should be putting all this attention on DXB as a transit route to Southeast Asia and Oz. They should be promoting Dubai for the destination itself and for other routes in the region and even South Africa.

Thanks Eikiwi and EIRules!
I would like to see Aer Lingus start their own routes to Asia and I would like to see them fly to JNB from DUB. I'm sure being friendly with a big airline like EK will not harm Aer Lingus' reputation unlike the risk of attacking Emirates and loosing out.
I must admit the flight I was on was very full in both economy and business so the route must be doing well so far.

No I am sure being "friendly" with EK wont harm EI either, and it may strengthen their transatlantic business if they can market flights from DXB-US through DUB correctly.

With Aer Lingus expanding so fast and opening lots of new opportunities I hope Dublin can do the same. Evan now DUB can get very overcrowded and that can put passengers off. The new terminal and piers that have been mentioned recently look very good and the airlines must be happy! Big grin
On a side note, the new terminal at Cork opens in 15 days time and it looks very good it will be a nice addition to Irish airports.

I completely agree, any developments in aviation have to be good news. Hopefully this will attract more new airlines into Cork and more new routes. Perhaps even CO?

I would love to see a long-haul route out of Cork and CO would be perfect. Can Cork handle an A330?
This is a good picture from PlanePictures.net and it shows the size of the new terminal well.

Not sure about a 330 but surely a CO 757 wouldnt be a problem

No Auckland? Will this mean I will be able to book a flight through EK from here in Australsia direct into DUB utilising both EK and EI except on one ticket?

It's all a bit interesting, because theoretically you could book anywhere in the oneworld alliance with EI, but you'd never guess it from their web site.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

No, AKL is not on the proposed list, although I wish it was, as it would suit me down to the ground!! I would assume that there is something down the line re: the NZ market, but as to whether it would be along the same lines as the destinations above, I cannot be certain.

I would assume that you will be able to use one ticket, and I hope it gets promoted heavily Down Unda as it will be here, but that of course, remains to be seen!!

There are no immediate plans for this to be enhanced either. Encourages pax onto the oneworld website itself, I suppose. Also, of course, cost, as always is a major issue.  Smile

Cork has handled a QF 747 before, not sure about the ins and outs of it, also there was a plan to offer charter flights from the US to cork last year using a 752 but they pulled out over costs.... could have been ryan international.

A CO 757 would be great out of Cork but I would always like to see Aer Lingus fly out of Cork on long-haul. Once the stop over and all that business is over and done with, maybe we will see some more longer routes out of DUB and ORK.
