Garuda To Lease A319?

Tue Apr 25, 2006 5:01 am

According to an article in Airliner World:

"Garuda Indonesia plans to lease up to ten A319 aircraft use for its low-cost entity Citilink, which currently uses five leased Boeing 737-300s"

Anyone heard of this? Did a search but didn't find any post about this. I am quite surprise with this decision as GA starts to phase in the B737NG, why not go for 737-700?

But A319 in Citilink color will be nice. Their color scheme is one of my favourite. Also, definitely a nice change to Indonesian airspace with all those B737s flying except the Batavia A319 any maybe later Adams and Air Asia Airbuses...!!

This info is not new , even if ATW just published it.
For some months now we learnt this info , but do not know if this deal went or not.As these planes will come from a lessor (ILFC ? Gecas ? , Aercap ? CIT ?) it's hard to know if they will see light.
Sometimes lessors do not announce the deal they have with airlines , and we know of this at the delivery of the first plane. Is it the case with Citylink ?

Well... the first B737-800W that GA got come from a lessor and there is definitely no offical announcement that I know of. Although GA did sign a letter to lease/buy new B737-800 from Boeing along with B787.

There are plans for Citilink to be spun off from Garuda. Until those plans clear up, there will unlikely be any movement on the A319 issue. Citilink, by the way, is struggling to survive in the ultra competitive Indonesian domestic market, so it remains to be seen whether the airline will keep existing to start with.

As for Garuda's B738s, two airframes are now in the fleet (PK-GEE and GEF), and both are operating in the one-class outfit of its preovious owner. These airframes are not part of the deal that was signed with Boeing last year. Garuda's B738s are deployed on the CGK-CAN and DPS-PER routes, for the most part. In addition, one can fly the 738 on domestic routes between CGK and SUB and CGK and DPS.

Does GA intend to keep those two B738 or they will be replace by new B738? Will GA reconfigured the two aircrafts to 2 class cabin?

These aircraft are apparently not expected to stay and therefore will keep on flying in this horrible charter configuration. The seat pitch is truly disgraceful.
