FAA Says No To JAT For U.S And Canada Flights.

Tue Apr 25, 2006 11:59 pm

The FAA has not granted JAT the right to serve JFK and YYZ and the carrier has cancelled the lease on the polet 767-200 it was planning to operate on the routes. For now JAT will seek a codeshare on these routes. These routes were to begin in may.A little dissapointing to say the least....

It has more to do with JAT dumping the 767 than anything else.

Were they only going to have 1 762 to fly both routes? I would have thought they would need 2 anyway?

The carrier was leasing only 1 762 for the flights,3x weekly JFK and 1 or 2x weekly to YYZ.

Regarding the YYZ flight, it's the responsibility of the Canadian CAA. I don't understand what the FAA has to do with flights into Canada.

Serbia maintains Category-2 status in the FAA International Aviation Safety Assessments (IASA) Program.

As a result the carrier is bared from launching new services to the US.

From what I understand Serbia also has several other bilateral agreements that have expired in regards to immigration and security issues with the US that require renewal prior to resumption of services.

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding. It's likely that as a result of the FAA refusing rights to serve JFK, it is no longer viable to serve YYZ. The FAA has not, I would suggest, prevented JAT from serving YYZ if it wanted to. As someone else said, that would be a matter for the Canadians.

Its simply the fact that the carrier wont be taking the 767-200,its not viable to lease a jet for flights to a destination your only going to serve once or twice a week.So in reality even though the FAA doesnt govern canadian skies there decision effected Torontos JAT service directly.Although I wonder if Skyservice will operate its YYZ-Belgrade flights this summer.

Unfortunate news from the United States, but nonetheless, it was not unanticipated. Leasing one long-haul aircraft for the purpose of one or two weekly flights is certainly not feasible. I am afraid that it is rather late for Jat to find a codeshare partner now. Any takers?

The FAA rejection to resume direct flights should provide incentive for Serbia & Montenegro to renew their outstanding agreements with the States. My only concern is that the US may be slowing down the whole process as a result of foreign policy issues. Moreover, Serbia & Montenegro may want to wait after the Montenegrin referendum to see what the future holds for the state union.

I was told that SkyService will not be flying to Serbia nor Croatia this summer.
