Few Questions...

Hi All,

Today I have few questions for you all.

I spent 6hrs spotting at DCA today and I noticed something strange. I was watching Delta MD-88 taxing to the runway 19 (nothing unusual at DCA) but - I heard on my scanner conversation between Tower and that aircraft.

DL563 - Tower Delta Five Six Three requesting wind info.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three wind Two Three Zero at ten
DL563 - Tower, Not enough HEADWIND to take off, we'll wait few minutes.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, copyed that, (then another Delta aircraft B727 passed them and took off)
DL563 - Tower, this is Delta Five Six Three, wind check please.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, wind Two Four Zero at Ten. Altimeter Three Zero Zero at Niner
DL563 - Tower, Delta Five Six Three requesting return to the gate.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, copyed that, contact ground at one seven.
DL563 - Thank you....

After 30 minutes I heard them again
DL563 - Tower, wind check please.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, wind Two Two Zero at Eight.
DL563 - Tower thank you., we are ready to go.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three Update on wind. Two One Zero at Eight.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, taxi to the runway One Nine.
DL563 - Copyed that. Wind check please.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three, wind Two One Zero at Seven. Please taxi and hold short of runway One Nine. Your company arriving on runway One Nine, traffic One mile on your left.
DL563 - Holding short of runway One Nine.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three please prepare for imediate takeoff.
Tower - Delta Five Six Three cleared for imediate takeoff.
DL563 - Thank you. Good day.

Ok, my questions are:
-Why they had not enough Headwind for takeoff??
They were too heavy?
-What is altimeter? 300 niner?
Also I have checked status of that flight. They DIVERTED to Jackson JAN instead fly straight to Dallas Fort/Worth DFW.
What happened that they had to divert??????

Next question.
Falcon 90 had callsign JETSPEED, Cessna Citation had callsign BlueStreak. And my question is why small planes had callsigns??? Always Tower call them Seven Two Bravo (N72B) but this time they called them different way. And approximetly 20 minutes after they touched down I saw like 10 Police cars, 5 Secret Service Agents cars and Police on motorcicles going toward Washington DC. Who came to DC???

Last question.
Does TWA going to repaint their MDs?? I saw today 3 of them and all were wearing old C/S.
Also I saw TWA B757 in new C/S. When you look at it close is orgasmic!!! Looks awesome.

I dont have more dumb questions for today.

Rafal,

Dumb answer #1) the DL from DCA-DFW, diverting to JAN probably did so because of weather and ground stops at DFW. I know DFW's had a rough weekend weatherwise.

Dumb answer #2) they probably were really close on the weight to get out of DCA. Every knot of headwind helps.

Dumb answer #3) some of TWA's are repainted. I've seen a number of them at MSY.

Dumb answer #4) the altimeter has to do with barometric pressure.

Rafal, well it's official...I just took a look at the FAM for flight 563. It was LOADED and you know that runway at DCA is very very very short. The 88 needs a ton of speed since the engines are in the back, and it lands fast too. Much more than that of a 757. You wouldn't believe the caos inside the cabin once you hit the ground in DCA on an MD-88. Everyone's head is in the seatback in front of them!!!
I also checked and the plane was diverted to JAN due to the weather and heavy ATC in DFW!!!
I'm probably correct, but were you spotting from the park off of the George Washington Parkway? That is probably one of the greatest places to catch a view nation wide!!!!

Thanks for the answers but still I dont know why small biz jets had callsigns BlueStreak and JetSpeed.
