Cathay & ORD

Probably been discussed, but I'm asking anyway. I saw a classified add in last Sundays Chicago Tribune for a Cathay employee. It sounded like it was a passenger sales position. I also saw another add a while back for some other position. Anyone know if they are planning to start ORD service in the near future? What aircraft type would they use to compete with UA's service.

many airlines may have a sales office in a major city but not have flights.

While I do enjoy seeing CX's 744F's at ORD, I haven't heard any rumblings of CX providing passenger service here. Although it would be nice!

I did a quick search of job listings at the Trib online, and didn't see the ad. Could you possible do a quick search for it? I'm curious what it says. It might give some clarification.

I think by the time AA and CX get around to a service Hong Kong's new carrier OASIS will already be operating the route!

Agree....when I was traveling form KHI-DXB-CDG on AF (DXB-CDG), I called an AF office in KHI to confirm my booking, even though AF doesn't fly to KHI anymore...

also, AZ certainly doesn't fly to KHI (it might have at one time), yet looking at the picture below, there is certainly an AZ office...

I would think they would go with one of their 777-300ER's coming online..

Personally, given that UA runs 1x-2x/daily 747-400 flights, there is a lot of business to HKG....I would like to see AA pull their 777's out of the SJC-NRT run, replace it with a 763-300ER, and send a their 777-200ER to HKG...I don't think they would have too much of a weight restriction problem either...CO has already shown that their 777-200ER can do EWR-HKG, even though it has some weight restrictions

Oasis will serve OAK first, I believe. ORD will be a continuation of the OAK service. At least, that's what I inferred from the Oasis website.

It seems they have approval to fly from Hong Kong, but no approval yet to fly to the US.

Wedgetail737 - It sounds to me that the ORD service will be non-stop:

"Starting in late Summer 2006, Oasis will offer non-stop service to London, Milan, Berlin, Cologne/Bonn (Germany), Oakland and Chicago for the same price as many travelers presently pay for a 1- or 2-stop flight."

Now I beg the question: Is a low-fare, no thrills, 12-hr flight ORD-HKG going to attract enough business? Are they flying 1x weekly, 3x weekly? I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

The day they decide to start HKG-OAK service, I'll be down there.
