Lufthansa Is Cheaper Than Transavia.com!

Thu Apr 27, 2006 7:25 pm

Well for the ticket I paid. For the summer season 2006 I booked a flight yesterday, route Frankfurt-Athens-Frankfurt with Lufthansa for 129 euro (including all taxes).

When I had booked a flight around the same period Amsterdam-Athens-Amsterdam with transavia.com I would have paid around 400 euros (including all taxes).

Lufthansa:
- including food and drinks
- spacious seats and legspace
- scheduled, so on time
- wide choice of departure times and days

transavia.com:
- no food, no drinks
- small seats, limited legspace
- charter, heavy delays may occure
- very limited choice of departure times and days

The Long Parking fees in Germany are much cheaper than Amsterdam.

transavia.com a low cost carrier? I disagree...

I found a rountruip ticket GVA-MAD-GVA for only 205 francs whilst it was 350 francs with EasyJet

I found the same, although the difference wasn't quite so much, when booking Barcelona to Berlin for the end of may. I think it was €190 on lufthansa and €210 on easyjet, but I'm not gonna pay more for less service!
I've also found the same with Iberia and Vueling, on both national and international flights!

Whats going on with budget airlines? surely they should be cheaper????

I have never considered transavia.com a real LCC. They cut costs like other LCC's do, but they don't seem to have the low fares you can find at easyJet, Ryanair, Air Berlin and the likes. They advertise with very low fares (EUR19 for AMS-STN) but with taxes and fees added, I have never been able to find a round trip for less than 80 euros. And those 80 euros round trips are quite scarce.

You are comparing 2 different routes! FRA-ATH and AMS-ATH. How do you get to FRA? Probably by car. Depending where you live in the Netherlands that will be a 4-6 hrs drive. Keep in mind that -like all airports- you need to be at the airport about 2 hrs before departure, so it will be a loooooong day!

If you compare the 2 airlines from AMS, LH still wins, but the difference is less. I just randomly selected a departure in the last week of July with the return a week later in the first week of August. AMS-FRA-ATH-FRA-AMS with LH is €330 (taxes/fees included) and HV €425 (taxes/fees incl), still about €100 cheaper if you take LH, but not non-stop and the hassle (OK as A-nutter no problem, but most people prefer non-stop) of changing planes in busy FRA. So I checked KL. Non-stop, (considered) full-service, choice of several daily departures. Guess what?? Cheaper than HV!! €325 (same as LH), taxes and fees included!!!

Anyway, enjoy your flight  Smile
