Canadian's DC-10

Mon Jun 12, 2000 1:24 pm

DC-10 is singular on purpose. It is my understanding that CP has 1 DC-10 left for service. This according to their website, as well as their timetable. Apparently there is a flight CP001 YYZ to NRT that will operate this summer using a D10.
Can anyone verify this for me? If not, then please tell me where the D10s are right now.

Canadian Airlines sold the Toronto -Tokyo route to Air Canada for over $250 million CDN several months ago. This means there's no CP operated aircraft flying into Tokyo Narita anymore - AC flies mainly A340s over there.

The DC-10-30 doesn't show up at all in CP's timetable for YYZ-NRT. I just checked the timetables for both AC and CP. Trust me, I know that "D10" is the timetable code for the DC-10-30. The last DC-10 may have already left CP's fleet by now.

Dannyboy, when'd the new AC/CP combined timetable come out? I've just been checking the online timetables on the Web for both airlines, even into August and September, 2000 - and only "343" shows up, indicating A340 as the equipment of choice! As a matter of fact, flights CP3001 and CP3002 are exactly the same as flights AC1 and AC2 - and they are supposed to be AC-operated both ways.

Last week I was taken a flight to Hong Kong via NRT from SEA. While my flight toke off from NRT, I saw the CP B744 taxi to the runway for departure.

The 744 taking off from NRT was bound for YVR as CP4.

Is it the one that has all of the signatures?

The one with all the signatures is a DC-10 and it has been scrapped along with all of the other ones in the fleet

Corrections...

Tue Jun 13, 2000 1:26 am

A few little corrections for you all: Flyguy-the DC-10s have not all been scrapped. They are parked at various airports ie YEG, YVR.
Samurai 777-don't be so quick to make statements about the timetable: Dannyboy (and myself) are absolutely correct: check the new combined timetable (the paper format, not the web) and you will see.
I would still like to know who owns those DC-10s at present, and what the plans are for them.

From my info the AC1/2 / CP3001/3002 flights are operated by AC A340's, so either the flight is a misprint in the printed timetable, or perhaps the shortage of aircraft is causing them to use the DC-10 on the route for a short interim period? Anyways, I don't think a single DC-10 could do a full round trip daily. I just remember hearing that the entire DC-10 fleet was parked, awaiting their final dispersal.

As for the rest of the DC-10's, I believe they are already sold or returned to the lessors. Currently there are only 3 DC-10's left on the Canadian register, so presumably the rest have been exported to another country.

1 DC-10 now operates for Bangladesh Airlines. In fact, if you look at page 31 of the May issue, Airliner World, you will see a picture of that '10 with the old CP colors and cheat line but the Canadian has been replaced with Bangladesh. The photo of the aircraft was at Bahrain.

1 other '10 is in the states for conversion to a freighter.

Thanks guys/girls. AC 183 I have noticed how clear and concise your answers have always been - we need more of this.
Back to the subject, the timetable lists CP 001 beginning August 1st only, using a D10. I am thinking this must be a misprint. The route is YYZ NRT. Strange.

Me, clear and concise? This is probably the first time I've been accused of that.

I just went and checked the sked online (again) (through a travel site, so that it takes it from the res system and not the sked which is only periodically uploaded) and from what I can tell the YYZ-NRT route is operated by A340s on August 1, as well. Given that the schedules have been changing daily, it's possible that the DC-10 was correct at the time of printing, but with all the changes since the summer sked has been announced, well, who knows.

Hi everybody!

I have seen 2 DC-10's parked at YVR's south terminal. I am pretty that Canadian can use these planes if they have equipment problems with their other aircraft. I have seen these DC-10's recently at Canadian's hangar, so I think they are in service when needed.

If anyone knows more about these planes or has been on one recently, let us know.

Those Canadian DC-10s are no longer at the south terminal. I think they were at CP's hangar last week, and haven't seen a sign of them anywhere since.

The DC10 Is Gone

Tue Jun 13, 2000 2:10 pm

There will be no more DC10 flights at Canadian. The Pilots are in the process of being trained on the 767-300 or 747-400 (depending on seniority).
It is wishfull thinking to think that they will keep them around for a spare(s).
The last DC10 flight I saw was when I went to the open house at YVR a couple of months ago. It was coming in from Asia (tokyo or taipai).
It was hard for me to get used to not seeing a DC10 in Canadian colors since there have always been plently at YVR, but I have.

One DC10 is still being held in reserve in case it is needed during the summer. As a result, cabin crew have been warned not to remove the section in our manual that pertains to the DC10 until authoriaztion is received from MOT.

It is true, all of Canadian's DC-10s are listed as "Out of Revenue Service". The last 6 or 6 were retired in January and the rest have since gone. But they appear to still own them so I suppose its possible for them to be used again if they aren't sold first.

I'm working in the thick of things at Dorval for Air Canada. I wish we had an extra DC-10; actually I wish we had 10. That's about as many as we need right now. Too many revenue passengers were put on stanbye because of oversold flights...
But hey, our load factor is sky high!
