Southwest is apparently spending its own $$$ to put up some new jetways on Concourse B at MSY. I saw three of them arrive today. The ones that are up now are really sad...the tops are severly rusted, and they are just generally grimy overall....but those are not in use at this time since WN is only using three gates out of its usual six or seven. I guess they want to have the new jetways up and running prior to their next mini expansion of service in June, when they'll be up to a whopping 28 flights per day from here. And I meant the term whopping literally this time since it is oh so rare to see more than a handful of mainline jets from here per day from most airlines flying here (AA and CO excluded). Thanks to WN for at least holding its own down here against the ever increasing RJ invasion which is taking place....mostly from DL.
I'm glad the airport didn't spend its money on this though....there are several jetways on Concourse C which are in far worse condition than the ones that WN is replacing....namely C1/2/9/11/15/16...those babies are from the early 60's and they are in dire need of replacement.
