El Al Jet With Propellers?

Fri Apr 28, 2006 2:01 pm

At first I thought this was just a bad joke, but it seems to be another case of aviation reporting by someone who has no idea what he's talking about:

A jet with propellers? Not properly locked? Hilarious!

Heya,

By reading the whole story, i think it is just bad english translation. If you read the last sentance "280 passengers are on the flight." that is not proper English for the past tense.

Thanks
Mike

Don't laugh could be an issue with the Ram Air Turbine which is a little propeller that drops out of the belly of the aircraft.

Or maybe they retrofitted part of their fleet to propellers as part of a cost-cutting measure  Silly

Maybe propellers is just a bad translation of "turbine blades"? Anyone have any info on what really happened?

Having read the article I was more interested in the tourist being ripped off by the hotels??The same as travellers and airlines. The web is making it more difficult for these moneygrabbers

You won't believe it.
First of all, the Hebrew version of the story on the same site also mentioned propellers.

However, in an Israeli aviation forum it was said that the pilots were not sure that the flaps were up after take off so they returned to the airport. It was not even an engine problem.

El-Al stretched its fleet to the maximum in the past 4 weeks for several reasons. Now they have some time to fix problems before the summer season.
