757-200 Overhead Bins

While all 757-300s have a 737NG-style interior, I have recently came across in differences between the overhead bins in Delta's 757-200s and AA's 757-200s.

The image on the left shows the interior of AA's 757s, and the image on the right shows Delta's. Delta's have a holding rail, and appear to be more modern. Could anyone explain why they are different?

Also, when I flew on a 757 with the refurbished interior, the same overhead bins were kept, but new reading lights were installed.

The Delta is indeed shown with the latest bins which seem to be used on all Boeing Narrow Bodies now. You can actually get more into the new style bins, similar to Airbus size.

AA has not renewed the 757 cabin very much.
Delta retrofitted the 737NG-style ceiling panels and overheads into their SONG 757 birds.
AA has put new, larger overheads in their 757s since that pic was taken, but the ceiling panels are still the same- just as CO, UA, and others have done.

Thanks for correction, the profile on the bin is different. I believe the volumes are similar.

The bins in the Delta 757s look a lot like the ones in the MD-88s. IIRC they did a bunch of the conversion back in the late 90s to early 2000s. They are supposed to fit three rollerboards in there wheels first but it never works for me.

The AA bins look like the one on NW's 752s delivered prior to 1995 (the ones with the N5xxUS registrations), but I can't remember about their newer 752s (ones registered N5xxNW). I do know the cabins on the newer versions have significant updates such as lav signage, passenger comfort units (do these have special names?), etc, but I'm not sure if the bins are updated on those ones.

Does anyone know difference in volume between AA757 type bins and DL 757 bins shown in the above?

The DL bins are only a plastic extension and new bin doors placed on the original factory bins.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

All of AA's 757s have received upgraded, larger overhead bins. The picture in the original post is from 1998. The new bins will take rollaboards wheels first, greatly improving the efficiency and volume of carryon stowage.

Does anyone have photos of the newer design for AA's and NW's 757-200s? Not the 757-300, as all 757-300s have a 737NG-style interior.

EDIT: Oh, I have found an image with the newer bins at Jetphotos.net They look somewhat more like Delta's, but still lacking a holding rail.

Yes, CO did this too. And CO got really pissed when airlines like AA and UA put those plastic cages around x-ray machines to try to limit the size of bags getting through since UA and AA hadn't gone through the expense of this retrofit like DL and CO had. CO claimed that one advantage they had over the competition was more room for rollerboards and such, and AA and UA were taking that advantage away at airports where CO had to share screening facilities.

Ultimately, those plastic restrictor plates were taken off, and now people are free to bring luggage they should be checking and try to cram it into the bins again. CO and DL's bins are very big, and people still can't fit bags in there. Grr...

Well, Continental's 767-200s has the Boeing Signature Interio, but those aircraft were made with them.

Other than that, I do not know of any airlines with retrofit bins on their 767-200s. I wonder why Delta didnt update the bins on the 767-200 and 767-300. I have heard that even on the 767-300s with the newly-refurbished interior, the original bins were kept. I do know that on the 757s with the newly-refurbished interior, the existing bins were kept, but with new reading lights installed.

Does Boeing offer a Signature Interior retrofit? If not, I think Delta should have gone with Heath Tecna's 767 NuLook. It somewhat resembles the Boeing Signature Interior (especially with the pivot-style bins). Which airlines have 767s with the 767 NuLook?
