AI 772 - Ft Worth Alliance - Bombay

Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:09 am

Just noticed there is an Air India 772 (AI 160) that departed Fort Worth Alliance about 16:45L heading nonstop to Bombay.

Anyone know why it was at AFW? Seems a long way to go for maintenance.

Perhaps something that needed to be done in the states? I'm not sure but it is strange. One thing to remember is that AA does have a large 777 maintenance facility. If AI could work out a deal with AA, It beats waiting for boeing to schedual something in Everett. Just a thought.

Pretty damn impressive haul for that sucker, particularly since they are not doing the GC polar routing.

I wonder why they are having this done by AA and not in HKG

This is especially strange considering that this would be a PW4000 plane at one of the largest Rolls Royce knowledge bases worldwide. AFW doesn't have a bit of relation to the PW4000...

AA, indeed, is doing modification work for AI before the plane's delivery, as they have for just about all of AI's other 777s. IINM, AA is redoing the interiors and performing some routine maintenance/engineering tasks before AI puts the planes into service.

Well, not sure about this one, but several of AI's previous 777s are owned by Avitas and were in the U.S., so sending them to AFW wasn't really sending them 'back' to the U.S. from India for maintenance. They were already in the U.S. and were getting the work done before AI took delivery.

Because AA has one of the largest and most advanced 777 maintenance facilities in the world at AFW, and can do just about anything a maintenance customer needs for the plane. AA is a one-stop shop. Also, Avitas and AI have been exceedingly happy with the work AA has done for them in the past -- on-time, under-budget, quality stuff. Refreshing to see considering that AA is now the only U.S. carrier that still does 100% of its heavy overhaul maintenance in-house.

Or is AI secretly acquiring another B777, a RR powered one maybe - to put them on their way to becoming the only operator in the world that would have operated ALL 3 types of engines on the 777 by February 2007?
