Quickest Way To Connect T4>T1 At LHR

Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:45 am

I will be arriving into LHR from Zurich on BA in T4 and will need to transfer to T1 for a flight out to LAX. What's the quickest way to do this? I am trying Club so eligible for Fast Track.

The quickest way its heathrow express.

Its a train from LHR to Paddington in central London. They offer free service from T1, T2 and T3 to T4. It takes around 5 minutes.

Im not sure whether is free or not on the other way (from T4 to T1, T2, T3)

Cheers

You should be able to do an airside transfer. There is a shuttle bus that will take you to the different terminals. I do the reverse. I fly into T3 (arrivals from MIA) and ride the bus to T4 (it passes under the runway). Check the LHR website. Going thru immigration will add time so i wouldnt recommend it.

HEX and HEC are totally free between the terminals, both directions, the conductors simply don't check tickets till they are out of the airport area. Anyway, you are probably best served by the airside shuttle bus transfer unless you have a whole bunch of time..

The airside transfer bus is a good laugh- youll journey all through the backend of LHR. Not many people seemed to take it. Sort of fun to see the infrastructure behind the airport. It didnt take that much time, and by the time you GET to the train and around you may as well have taken the airside bus.

True..... It takes forever to find your way through the maze of tunnels in the central area to find the HEX station, and current rebuilding down there has made it an overcrowded hell on earth lately. You also have to get down about 3-4 levels and a good few hundred yards along another tunnel to the train platforms! (and the same at the other end, only in reverse) The HEX is great for getting into Paddington in a reasonable time (if a LOT more expensive than the normal Underground), but not really a good idea for swift inter-terminal transfers.

If you're checking luggage through, make sure you have a LONG transfer time - the Minimum Connect Time specified by BA isn't usually long enough to get your bags transferred across (LHR is notorious for this) - if you have anything less than a 3 hour connect time, your bags probably won't make it. Sad but true.

I've done this quite a few times - airside shuttle bus is best.

I often go from T1 to T4 and vice versa. there's a shuttle bus that takes you to each Terminal so it wont be a problem Smile

Good one.
LHR is a mess when it comes to connections and really the unfeathered airside bus beats the LHR express.
But you will still have a sh!tload of queues to go through.
Don't trust BA's min. connection times...been there, done that, got re-booked or had the privelege to have my suitcases delievered to my door!
