Pissed Off In HKG... Again!

Mon Jun 12, 2000 8:30 pm

If you're at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport on June 6, 2000, at the threshold of runway 25R, you'll see an Asian-looking, English-speaking teenager quarrelling fiercely with several men who speak some hardly-understandable English with a strange accent. Yes, you guessed it -- that teenager is me!!

Okay so what at all is the problem with foreigner-like teens like me spotting in Hong Kong. Is Hong Kong a city that does not welcome foreigners, or is it just those spotters being hostile.   You might have read about this before, because I have already talked about it in this forum before. I have encountered some friendly HKG spotters up here on the net, but none down there at the airport.

I was just standing there. I hoped I could stay clear of them due to my past unhappy experiences with HKG spotters. I tried not to even be of any notice to them. Who knows when they wanted to talk to me, discovered that I didn't speak Chinese, and they wanted to kick me off the scene!   I could hardly understand what they were talking about, since their accent was annoyingly strange. However, I knew what they mean from their attitude.

Now I can't see any valid reason for me to spot in Hong Kong anymore. What a shame -- Chek Lap Kok is a badly built airport, and yet to be destroyed by hostile spotters!!

Please, any HKG spotters out there!? Any foreigners experienced this before in HKG?

I have visited Kai Tak twice with no problems at all, in fact the locals could not have been nicer

Never been to CLK yet to see what the spotting is like.

HK is my favourite destination and I will be back.

I live in hong kong and am disgusted with you saying "Chek Lap Kok is a badly built airport" It is rated top 10 infastructures in the world, it has the worlds largest undercovered space.

I have been kicked out of that area that you have mentioned before as well. This is because security would get suspicious, if you noticed there are 2 sets of fence, gravel and lazer beams. Its a very high security airport now you know and that place is not a viewing area.

There are places to spot planes in chek lap kok, you just have to find them. There is one on the mountain where you can take ecelent shots of aircraft.

People. They make an airline.

What I mean by saying "Chek Lap Kok is a badly built airport" is in reference to spotting. NOT to the general usage. It looks great, works great, but spotting there is a pain in the ___.

I am sorry to hear that you had troubles again. I really can't imagine what people you met, as I always spot there and have never had any problem. Loads of people mill around spotting, or just watching and I have never seen them have any problems at all. I was there today with 'N754PR' with no problems. Maybe it's just bad luck.

Do you stand on the rocks, or do you stand near to the pump room next to the fence. I normally sit on the rocks and have never had any problems at all.

Hope you have a better experience next time!!!
