Gainesville Texas Airport Hit By Tornado

Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:46 am

CNN.Com is reporting on a tornado that hit the Gainesville Texas Airport. They have some pictures of about six large twin props that looked like they were stacked up in a pile by the tornado. If anyone knows this airport why the large number of large twin props?

I've been to gainesville many times... they were in my athletic conference when I played high school football at Burkburnett, TX. Not exactly sure why there were so many twin props there.

Not cool.

El Reno, Canadian County Oklahoma had its hanger ripped away by a tornado less than a week ago. Not a good week for airports versus tornadoes.

Checking the cnn video shot today, looks like a part-out dealer or a refurb dealer up in Gainesville took it pretty hard. 3 DC-3s and 3 Convair 580 types were seen, some stacked on top of each other, and one hangar door was blown out revealing a Citation II or V along with a Learjet that was grey (Phoenix Air possibly)...They didn't appear to show the hangar that does military work, probably for good reason, but one stands to believe there may be some damage done there as well. (E-Systems still?)...

Haven't been to Gainesville in almost a decade so seeing the props there intrigued me...

That is no Convair 580, those are the P&W 2800 nacelles on that wing, and three bladed HS props.
