Which US Airlines Serve TPE?

Mon May 01, 2006 4:50 am

Which US airlines currently offer service to Taipei, Taiwan.

I was wondering if AA still offers flights to that city beacuse a while back they used ofer flights from SJC non-stop.

NW and UA are the only ones I know of and only UA serve it from the states. NW, you have to connect through NRT.

Why did AA stop flying into TPE? I was planning to fly to Taipei on June through AA.

I flew the AA SJC-TPE service four times. Coach was always nearly full, but Business and First were not heavily booked. IIRC, the service started in late 2000 or 2001, not long before the downturn in the computer industry and cargo the route was so dependent on fizzled out, if I'm not mistaken.

TPE is a great place to connect through. I wish AA could re-establish the service -- perhaps from another city.

The TPE-SJC flight was scheduled for about a 9:45am arrival, and on two of the four occasions, tail winds on the return trip were so good we arrived back before the Immigration and Customs Offices (in the trailer) opened, and we had to sit on the aircraft and wait for them to arrive and open. Fortunately they opened the aircraft doors and pushed up stairs. The authorities would let us walk out on the landing of the stairs for fresh air, but could not descend.

NW connects in KIX so from the west you have to backtrack to DTW, and UA makes a stop at NRT on their flight from SFO.

AFAIK, the SJC-TPE flight ended after 9/11/2001. As seen in the picture, AA's inaguration day for SJC-TPE and SJC-CDG. The SJC-CDG sector always gave me a WTF?!?! moment. Seemed like such an odd route.

AA was trying to build SJC into another small hub to feed the Silicon Valley tech crowd. LGW-SJC was planned, as was SJC-China, if the rights could be acquired/granted. When the tech bubble burst, the plans were shelved.
