United MileagePlus Choices

Changes to the MileagePlus program. Step in the right direction for cardholders of FF cards, allows you to indirectly earn Elite Status for using your card without even having to fly.

Overall the changes seem like a good thing to me. Any thoughts?

The changes to the program suck. The number of miles required to go to Australia or fly in premium classes is an absolute joke as is the huge copayment.

As far as this Choices thing goes, I am a bit confused by it and calling United to find out what it is all about.

Also, if you want to talk about FF plans, www.flyertalk.com is a better choice.

I think choices is great, after a read for an HOUR to figure out the details. For the average joe that isn't going to take time to figure it out, i think it is too complicated.

How do you earn elite status by using the Mileage Plus Card? You mean the card where if you spend $35,000.00 you receive 10,000 elite miles? Or did I miss something else?
Thanks

You recieve 5000 for signing up, 5000 every 35,000 and 1 EQM for every $ spent on Star Alliance travel, up to 5000 per year.

Does anybody know if Visa or any other credit card offers United Mileage Plus in Germany? I don't want to switch to LH!

Your US card will work in Germany, if you have one already. Also, it is not Visa or MasterCard that offers the card, but a bank (in UA's case, Chase) that licenses their name and uses their processing system.

Speaking of Chase, did they cancel the UA MileagePlus debit card when they merged with BankOne? I can't find information on it anywhere.

In order to get the MileagePlus Visa from Chase, you have to be a U.S.
resident. However, UA might have a Visa (or Mastercard) affiliation
with a German Bank.

Back to the topic: is this part of the Chase Visa program, or the pre-paid
one where you automatically get elite status depending upon which
dollar increment you purchase? Or is this product something entirely new?

I just went to the MP website to find out about this.

It's basically a benefit of the Chase MP Visa Card.

As far as I can tell, you'll still earn FF miles for your purchases, plus
1 Choice point for each qualifying dollar.

And apparently new card members will receive 17,500 Choice points.
I'm glad I got this card when they were awarding 17,500 FF miles.

As for the Choice points to EQMs conversion: 50,000 Choice points
for 5,000 EQMs is nothing to get excited about. I can book a RT
IAD-SFO flight for about $300 and earn basically earn the same amount.

However, since it is an added feature of the program, I guess I shouldn't
be complaining about it too much.

If anyone is an AA Advantage member, they're having a great promotion
this month to celebrate its 25th Anniversary.
Each day will feature a new offer like bonus miles and reduced mileage
awards for all classes of travel. What they've offered so far looks nice.

Hmm... this is kind of interesting. I seem to have a bunch of "choices" points already. If I were to redeem them for something, does anyone know if this affects my "normal" balance? As far as I can tell, this is a nice little freebie for me!

Ahh ... now that I read into it... it does reduce your "Standard" mileage balance. This is pretty useless. I wonder how much they spent on the software for this system? It's no wonder they're broke.
