Tue May 02, 2006 9:49 pm

i am aware of LPL-LCY but what about EZY LPL-LGW or slots permitting LPL-LHR with bmi for connections . i know MAN is nearby but lpl is a big city too.

Like you said VLM operate LPL-LCY flights, but you may not be aware that pax numbers on flights between MAN and London have greatly decreased thanks to improvements on the rail network.
Virgin Trains now carries 2/3 of people going between Manchester and London.
I understand Virgin also have quite a number of trains between Liverpool and London as well, which may be scarin the likes of BD and BA from trying LPL-LHR. Thus BA/BD will use their LHR slots for more lucrative routes such as MME and LBA  duck

LPL-LTN EZY flights were operated, attracting big volumes. Unfortunately the average yield was £17/sector - hardly enough to support the operation.

Well I understand BMI on the MME-LHR are getting thumped by GNER and BA from NCL-LHR since they switched the timings on MME-LHR. Although I believe the BMI Baby MME-LGW flight is doing very well.

A long time ago British Midland (now BMI) used to fly a DC9 from LPL-LHR, but dropped it due to poor loads, I presume.

Why none now? Rail connections and for transit pax maybe MAN is a better alternative.

Re Virgin. In either 2007 or 2008 Virgin will increase the London-Manchester train service to every 20 minutes. Lverpool-London will remain hourly but will be speeded up, only stopping at Runcorn

Maybe a weekday morning/afternoon only LPL-LGW-LPL would make any sense now. Travel by train is more attractive between Liverpool and London except probably for LGW and areas south of LGW.
