Qatar Airways Next Destinations?

Wed May 03, 2006 4:03 am

Looking at their website recruitment section and their cabin crew requirements (language/nationality), interesting to note:

QR already flies to:

• Algiers
• Egypt
• Germany
• Greece
• Hong Kong
• India
• Indonesia
• Kenya
• Lebanon
• Malaysia
• Singapore
• South Africa
• Spain
• Sri Lanka
• Thailand
• Tunisia
• Turkey
• United Arab Emirates

But not to:

• Albania
• Argentina
• Bulgaria
• Chile
• Czech Republic
• Mauritius
• Poland
• Romania
• Serbia
• Sweden

They announced plans for 10 new destinations this year… makes you think ha?

Czech Republic

Definitely a good idea for QR. I think PRG would sustain a daily A330 flight to Doha with the option of connections.
Kuwait Airlines already fly to PRG with great succes.

There already was a statement made about Bucharest in Romania, plus the A346 HGW's are arriving soon making EZE and SCL a possibility...

The list above is in no way scientific... just guessing here Big grin

I'm sure the US is high on the agenda for QR, along with Australia.

Albania? Bulgaria? Romania? Serbia?
Please explain to me why you do expect QR to fly there. I know that especially Romania is currently a growing market and is going to become a member of the EU in the near future. But is it really big enough to be served by QR? I do not see this. Serbia and romania??? - No way!!!

I` d rather see them adding more destinations in Western Europe to their current route map as well as cities in North America (direct flights) and of course Australia.

South America? Don`t think so. Just not enough potential. Maybe they could do codesharing with an US airline?!

There is NOT ONE direct flight from ANY Scandinavian country to the Gulf.
EK cancelled their CPH plans after the drawing debacle earlier. There has been rumous about SK rerouting CPH - BKK to fly via DXB but not more than rumours.

Danish company Maersk is a VERY BIG player in Qatar oil and gas industry.
Nokia and LME are big in ME telecom.

All these things point to the need of a Gulf - Scandinavia route. Maybe an open door for Qatar?

I think QR are planning to fly to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia sometime soon as I saw over 10 jobs for them in Ethiopia in a recent Airline Job magazine

Well if QR does go ahead with Australia flights, together with JNB, BKK, MLE, SEZ and other destinations, they could easily fill an A319/320 thrice weekly to OTP and BEG. You have very large ethnic communities in Australia/New Zealand/South Africa who cannot wait for a more convenient connection to their home countries. That's why!

Maybe QR could be a little creative and choose OSL as a door to Scandinavia ,they could even connect Norway with USA "Doha-OSL-JFK"

What about European cities?? on ur list London was omitted. Any others like CDG, MAD, LIS, MXP, Rome, or how about Ireland, Scotland, or other cities in the UK and Rep. Ire.

Where US cities are concerned- QR has non??? not even JFK???
and then for the list where would be prime??
JFK, MIA, DFW, ORD, BOS, LAX???- Do I smell a serious partnership with AA or has Gulf Air already jumped into bed with them???? One World in the future perhaps????

Cheers

I think joker compiled that list based on recruiting drives by QR in some of those countries. I know of one happening in Sofia for sure.

Where in the world can I find young good looking female potential crew that may have good knowledge of English and won't mind relocating to the Gulf for a good salary? That doesn't mean I'm actually gonna open routes to those places.
I want the European Union flag on airliners.net!

Currently QR op to LHR,LGW(?) and MAN in the UK.
There was rumours of a BHX service ages ago, but nothing came off that.

QR were trying to get the authority to fly to BLR, but I don't think they've got permission as yet. Once they get the permission (from the Indian authorities), they're quite likely to start services to BLR.
Incredible India!

That's true. They had planned this a long time ago but the bilateral air service agreement took longer than expected and I'm not sure if it has been signed yet. EK, TK and now QR? Its really going to be hot in Addis!

The CEO of QR was featured on the January 2006 issue of Airline Business and he mentioned that they will start serving the US (i'm not sure which city) as soon as they receive their A346 which they did and in fact they unveiled a new (improved?) livery on teh A346.

Cheers!

They dont like to recruit from countries which have strong willed people, they prefer subservient crew, (love thai). Western europeans are to lazy and dont have the image QR wants, they prefer cheap labour as they dont, pay anywhere as near as EK,EY - they dont even give out allowances on layovers, pay equivalent to half what we get at EK from our overseas allowances is paid into the bank at the end of the month. Where QR recreuits has nothing to do where they plan to fly.

I know this a bit off topic but does QR provide housing to all expat staff or do they pay out housing allowances? How expensive is the cost of living in Doha?

Cheers!

To see a carrier from the gulf other than Iran Air at AMS would be nice.

Historically Scandinavian countries and the Middle East are not very close -in all the years of working and living in the Middle East I have encountered some but not many Scandinavians.
I see more potential in new links with Canada,Spain,Italy ,Greece ,Turkey and Africa.
Also Brazil and Mexico will becom developping target-areas for ME airlines.
Biggest markets in the EEC will remain Germany and the UK for Qatar !

Expect Lagos (LOS) to be announced this year, if not before the summer.

I agree to a certain degree. Scandinavians don't make good expats and we have lately been lousy in marking our presence in the region. But in the 70's scandinavian construction companies (e g Skanska) where amog the major players in Saudi, Oman, Kuwait and Iraq.
Today?:
Maersk (Denmark) is one of Qatars strongest oil-partners. Not to mention Arla who more or less has a monopoly on dairy products in the entire region (something many did not know until the boycot made people realise that there was no other source for butter). Ericsson + Nokia are key players in the telecom infrastructure field.
Sweden sells quite a bit of military technology. Volvo and Scania has a lot of truck and motor export to the region. Plus the usual pulp and ore.

The thing is that there is NO (zero) direct airtraffic to the peninsula.
And ANY airline that was to be first would
A - get a lot of free marketing
B - be the one to determine what hub for Scandinavians to use in the region.
Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, Bahrain?

The [asian] ME traffic from Scandinavia (if I'm correct) is limited to:
Cairo, Beirut, Teherana and Damascus.
