I view Bahamas Air as a once proud carrier that is in the middle of re-inventing itself and trying to find profitability. The increased competition between the US and the Bahamas has hurt it and it will continue to struggle till it finds the right niche. Still a vast improvement over years past. The carrier has lots of great potential but, is linked to the volitale US-Bahamian tourist trade.

I'm from The Bahamas, so I love them no matter what.
Bahamasair is in the process of restructuring, in terms of reservations, customer satisfaction, baggage, and so on. They are in the process of selling thier 3 Shorts 360-200s and will purchase more Dash 8 300s and possibly more 737s. Bahamasair has a tough time turning a profit, for sending a 50 seater Dash 8 into Cat Island less than half full is a bad recipe for it's a scheduled flight and it must be flown or dropped. I hpoe they make money soon, the need to get 757s for service to JFK, IAD,and so on, maybe even for the west coast, such as LAX, just my opinion.

Just one comment : AVOID!

I had the doubtful pleasure to fly on Bahamasair last december between Nassau and Miami after I flew over from Miami to Paradise Island with Chalk's seaplanes, the latter being a very nice experience btw...

We were booked on the last Bahamasair flight back to MIA which was heavily delayed. As it was also overbooked, the Bahamasair ground staff canceled all seat assignments and told us : "get all in the plane, take the nearest seat, and who doesn't find one, please get off again".... well, we were lucky to get one, but the flight itself wasn't better than the ground service... the cabin was in a very bad look, it even smelled as if all passengers from the sreceeding flight had used the barf bags.... so we were quite happy that the 737-200 landed after 25 minutes in Miami....

I am not a too big fan of the american airlines, but next time I'm sure I woukld take AA Eagle's ATR's or any other company....

I hate Bahamas Air. First off, since they were the only ones that said they flew a jet from MCO to NAS we took them. Well our equipment got changed to a Dash 8 which none of us were happy about because we were worried to fly a little prop plane accross the ocean. It was 25 minutes delayed. Once we got to NAS we went to the baggage claim. We kept waiting and waiting. Only one bag came. THEY KEPT OUR OTHER BAGS IN MCO! With a I hate this job kind of tone, the plane was full. And thats all no sorry or anything. We got our bags the next day in the evening. There's 2 days of our vacation waisted. On the way back we had to problem. But they should be more clear on where your bags are coming off because it said Bahamas Air and then the flight number but then it got deleted. But our bags came off there.

Great story, Yeah right! just because you had a bad experience with them(one flight) doesn't mean you should hate them. They are a very small carrier, things are getting better....."it's better in The Bahamas".
