May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA, the world's fourth-largest aircraft maker, won an order for 50 business jets worth $140 million from JetBird AG.

Zug, Switzerland-based JetBird ordered 50 Phenom 100 jets with an option for another 50 that can be converted for Phenom 300 jets, the two companies said in a statement sent by e-mail. JetBird, a start-up company that plans to offer executive air travel in Europe, will begin service in 2009 in Switzerland using the Embraer aircraft.

Wow, it's been a good day for Embraer. First the launch the Lineage 1000, then they get a 50+50 order for their new year-old product line.

Nice to see the Phenoms selling!

I don't know, what to think about. I never heard of this airline, and now suddenly such an order ..... makes me sceptical. All the best!

.....neither did I. So I went now quickly looking up and found it: They are a registered company in the Canton of Zug and do have their own webpage:

www.flyjetbird.com

which explains who is behind the company. Let's see.

About the Phenom 100 and 300 I am positively minded about the success. Embraer created a great design. I had the chance today at EBACE Geneva to have a close look at the mock up's and I have to say, there is a good thing on track. If Embraer complements those products with a good customer support - somewhat they didn't have to do for the airlines the way as they need to do it for privates and therefore need to learn - it will be absolutely stunning.

Cheers

I wish them good luck! Though that is an awful lot of metal that they've bought straight off...and the amateurish look of their website doesn't really fill me with confidence!

For a company that has nearly no experience in the light bizjet market, I think it's premature to state that.

The airline is controlled by an Irish Financier by the name of Domhnal (Donal) Slattery.

There is a 5 million deposit to Embraer, further planned investment of 40 million between 2008 and 2010.

Mr. Slattery was a former GPA executive and founder member of (IAMG) International Aviation Management Group - (Leasing business)

True, But people said the same things about the EMB-110, EMB-120, ERJs, the EMB 70-90 series, and their military products. What! Brazil become a major avaition player...Haa Haaa Ha.
