Airliners In Google Earth

Thu May 04, 2006 6:25 am

Hey guys,

I was just reading a thread about the AN-225 in Google Earth (coordinates 50 30' 25.7" N, 30 12' 22.00 E) and got hooked on searching the approach paths of popular airports to find planes about to land.

Does anybody have specific coordinates for airliners in flight?

Thanks,

Tom

I guess sortof related, a good friend of mine who lives down the street from me, you can see his Cessna 185 Amphibian Sitting in his backyard.

40 54'47.86" N 73 31'32.87" W

We just taxi straight down the small hill into the water, and takeoff and turn north towards Conneticut. Coming up out of the water is often a problem, as low tide can cause the mains to dig into the mud.

On a side, non aviation related note, closer to me than the gentlemen with the 185, the lower right hand side of the Island, Moses Point, is the property that singer/actor Billy Joel now lives in with his wife. It was recentley featured on the popular Discovery Channel Orange County Choppers theme show when they visited him while they were desinging his custom bike. Just incase anyone was interested

I'm not seeing anything. Are those the right coordinates, or did they update the maps?

I had to look as well. It's on the ramp at the airport to the NE.
Try 50 35' 20.56 N, 30 12' 22.06 E (copy then paste into google earth search).

How about a shadow without a plane? 38 38' 15.03" N, 90 11' 03.29" W Can't tell if or what kind of plane it is but I've spent some time looking for it.

It looks to me as if there was a static aircraft display there, and it has recently been moved. Just a thought.

One very cool in flight image is just east of FRA. There is a LH 744 caught taking off in incredible detail, and because of multiple photos by the plane taking the pictures, it actually appears a few times, giving the impression multiple 744's are taking off in close succession.

In some of the high detailed airports, you can read a lot of the titles. FRA seems the best so far for me, I can read all the titles crystal clear.

Heathrow is just brilliant - there's Concordes all over the place (have a look at T4 at the south of the airport an in the Maintenance area)  Smile

If you look at JFK you can see a JAL 744 taxiing to the runway (dont know which one) and you can see the same 744 (same reg) on the runway it was taxiing to, its obivously the same plane in 2 different photographs taken by the sattelite over JFK.

I agree, I love looking at LHR for the huge variety of airlines and aircrafts, but from a strictly quality standpoint, FRA seems a bit "crisper."

Bonus points to anyone who finds the "old style" Star Alliance livery, and for anyone who finds the WN Shamu plane. Both are in the US.  Smile

Thanks for the replies guys. Where you would normally type in the address, town, airport, etc. that you are looking for (the white text box in the top left of the application) you type the coordinates. I found that its important to enter the correct form too (eg: 51 54.00' N 62 55.44" E)
