PTVs On Delta's Fleet

Fri May 05, 2006 3:36 am

Now that Song has been integrated into Delta's fleet, when will the Song aircraft get First Class seats, and when will the PTVs be added to other aircraft?

I have heard that after the 757s, the 737-800s will get PTVs, and then will be the domestic 767-300s. I really hope the 767-400ERs get PTVs.

Also, will the Song leather seat covers be kept or will they be switched to the dark blue on Delta's aircraft?

PTV's will be added to the rest of the fleet by 2008(2 years). Actually, it will be added to all 757's, 738's, and most likely all 767's. The only birds that probably would not get them are the MD-88's and MD-90's, as they are usually short haul birds(although DL loves to send them on near cross country ATL-TUS runs). And the MD-90's already have the nice overhead flip down screens, so I don't see it being very economical to add them on a fleet of 16.

The Song aircraft should be finished of the conversions by the end of the year. By that time, they should be painted, new seat covers installed, and First Class. I would think they could get 48 done in 7 months.

I'm assuming this doesn't include the 764s the will be converted for int'l?

I flew Delta ATL-EZE and SCL-ATL in March and both 767's had dated interiors with no PTV's. They really need to upgrade their cabin interiors and IFE systems.

Will the 757 FC PTV's be located similar to the 764's in between the seats or will they be installed in the headrests? Also what about row 19 in Y how will they do those PTV's on the 757's?

Are they using B6 LiveTV technology, a hybrid, or what?

I would assume they will be using the same technology used on the existing 48 Song 757s across the rest of the fleet (it's known to them, well tested, and provides fleet commonality w/the existing Song planes).

I'm assuming that they're going to renumber the seats on the 757s that will be converted to "song style". In that case 19 would be the equivalent of what row 9 is now. The PTVs are between the seats.

I understand these installatins will begin very soon. As bad as DL needs this, I think this is a waste of cash. IMO.

In a previous thread (too lazy to look it up), it was mentioned that the 764s will get them (they are already wired for them in Y). The only doubts are with the 763ERs due to weight/cost issues, which they are currently studying...

You need to SPEND money to MAKE money.

If you want to keep the old interiors and keep a bunch of cash but lose thousands of customers to competitors and eventually lose that cash that you saved, then there has to be something wrong with you. On the other hand, if you spend the money that you hardly have any of and provide great service and comfort and attract thousands of customers to your airline, you will eventually gain back the money and have high revenue. Which would you choose?

Take JetBlue for example..

I believe those will be some of the first ones and will get them as the planes are being converted for Intl. with BusinessElite.

I agree this needs to be done; however, with the uncertainty of future fuel cost this should be a project approached carefully while watching cash flow. DL issued RFP for the conversion of the SOng aircraft and DL TOC had the lowest bid. Yet DL had serious cost over runs to the tune of +$200k/ac. Should they take the same approach this will waste much needed cash.

DL will need more than PTV to return the loyal customer baseit once had. I do agree this is a great start, again cash is important.

I was reffering to the song style PTVs with sattelite TV. Since those planes are going int'l, they can't even have sattelite TV, right?

Anyone know if they will be removing the two seats that are now row "9" and re-installing the bulkhead there?

Normally, row 20 is the first row on the left side (and it's a bulkhead), and row 19 on the right, which is open to the doorway area.

From what I've heard they will not be reinstalling the bulkhead.
On a regular DL 757 there is a galley in the middle, right?
