Tue Jun 13, 2000 12:57 pm

Hi! On Virgin's A340s flying out of Chicago to London is the upper class have the same amenities as the 747? And what are some amenities for upper and other classes for the A340 and the 747s. List them seperatly.
Thanks!

Oh yeah one more question..........Would you fly Northwest or Virgin Atlantic to London. And does Northwest have individual video monitors in each seat for international like Virgin?
Thanks a lot.

NWA does not have seat back ptvs in economy but Virgin does. I'll take Virgin any day over NorthWorst Airlines. As for anemities. Virgin has a gret rubber duck as well as other toiletry items you can take but I I heard that they had changed the kits since I last flew them 1 1/2 yrs ago

Did I also mention that Virgin has nintendo 64 in the ptvs in economy? Virgins has the greatest passenger entertainment system in the air in economy.

Virgin's A340 cabins are more or less the same as the 747-200/400
fleet in terms of amenities. There is a stand up bar and massage
couch in the A340 Upper Class cabin. The Economy Class seats are
the same, but with a 2-4-2 configuration.

I would never, ever choose Northwest over Virgin to London. Virgin
is worth going out of your way to fly with. There has been a lot of
Northwest bashing on this forum lately, and while I agree with
some of the comments, NWAC is trying to very hard to reverse the
negative publicity it has received in the last couple of years. It still
has a long way to go though....

NW has no PTV's and I doubt their in-flight catering and service is
anything like Virgin's. Besides, if you fly NW to London, you'll be
flying on vintage DC10-40.

No Longer A340s.

Virgin Atlantic no longer operates A340-300 series aircraft on their LHR-ORD route. This route is now flown by their 747-200 series equipment.

When did they change the route to a 747 because just yesterday Expedia told me it was an A340 but Virgins website doesn't tell you what type of equipment it is.

From the information that I have received from members on this forum and others it has been a 747-200 for quite some time. I can't tell you first hand though because I am based out of EWR and 747-400s (LHR) along with 747-200s (LGW) are the only equipment that we receive.

Hi again! I checked trip.com for my dates and they must have changed from the 747 to A340 over the summer because it says A340 on their site. Thought you might like to know. When you checked what dates did you check for?

I used today's date and the 16th of June. Virgin is most likely using their 747-200s on higher density routes that are filling up due to summer travel. What dates are you traveling on?
