1st Annaversary For HP At OKC

Sun May 07, 2006 1:41 am

Hey,

Today May 6th is the first Anneversery for America West at Oklahoma City.

How have they done in this year of service at OKC? Will they be looking at mainline here, soon?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how they are doing, I assume they are doing fairly well if they've maintained their flights here. Of course with the newly built terminal and the other one on the way, OKC has increased its capacity and hopefully it will draw in new service as it already has. I would particularly like to see Jetblue and US come to OKC. I think that US would probably be the better candidate, though I think they codeshare with HP. Anyway, great to see another Oklahoman on here! Cheers.

SOAC,

I may be wrong but Codeshare flights seem to cost more money.

First Anniversary for the return of the HP brand...HP was here before. We just need to keep in mind it is now US Airways, and I would not be shocked to see them add a couple flights to the CLT hub to get the other coast connected in.

Hey there OUBOY you missed the AA A300 that did a touch and go the other day. It was the same day that B6 had a charter flight into to OKC.

Well in that case is Mesa US? HP is still operating under a different certificate I believe and is basically operating as separate pilots etc. so I fail to see where HP is US yet.

I have flown the route to OKC many times on US and it's full or oversold almost everytime.

I know the flights started with CRJ-200's.. and If i'm not mistaken, have been upgraded to CRJ-900's

That is a good sign anyway.

Yes, I see the CR9's now. Back when they started here they were putting CR2's here. I would like to see 737's or something bigger than the Canadair. I am sure they could turn good profit with a 737 or 319. If people are flocking to there Check In desks like AZFlyer84 says they probably could.

It's only a matter of time until mainline appears in OKC. If MEM can get mainline, so can OKC.

Ah come on. While they both have separate certificates, they both are referred to as US Airways. America West no longer exists as an airline.

And if you want to look at it that specific, then we should be congratulating YV, instead of HP/US.

YV would be hard pressed for being congratulated for anything. They are the one huge thorn left keeping HP/US from being a world-class airline. (that and their relatively sorry international network)

Hey now, you're touching on a sensitive subject here, haha. As long as my paycheck stubs and uniform still say America West, I'm an America West employee.

Well right now, we're flying to more international destinations than WN - that is one way we distinguish ourselves from them. As we become more solvent, we'll get some A350s and more A330s and do some more international flying - perhaps try to penetrate the Asian market.

Roger that. US East still has seperate ops, and the mx, crew, and ramp unions have not yet unified meaning we can't swap aircraft with each other. Once that happens, then I will the America West name pass away.

The difference being of course, YV doesn't sell that flight on their own website. Express carriers' codeshare relationships are different than airline to airline codeshares in that YV depends on the HP marketing department and staff to sell that flight and do nothing of their own for it.

i think eventually okc will go mainline, but i think it will see clt service before that. Also on a side note tul would be another city us would go into. Even though wn has a 89% marketshare. Wn doesn't fly to hawaii, canada, mexico, or many small sc cities.

Now HP/US is sharing a gate with AA, Cause AA took over the ticket counter and the ramp for US/HP. CO doesn't handle HP/US flights anymore.

Flew out on crapwest to AUS for work (gee i wonder which company LOL)...and noticed the America West name is essentially completely gone, just a little logo under "US Airways Express" at the counter. It definitely looks nice seeing US in OKC...I've been hoping to see the flag there since I first moved here in 97.  Smile

I really need to pay more attention. LOL At least working off SE 15th - i'll be able to see more.

I would expect a lot of movement in OKC from a few people. The new UAX flight to MSY is doing extremely well right now, though SAT is lagging load wise (not sure about yeild). Definitely could see mainline coming in finally. Hopefully.

Well, I consider that different. To the employees, they are still separate. I liken that to US-East employees still referring themselves as USAir employees. However, to the public, there is no America West. It is now US Airways.

Eh, kinda, or Piedmont employees, or PSA, or MDA...etc.
To the public here, at least for the moment America West is still going strong. America West signage is still up, and since US (East) didn't fly here, and we do get many 737s, the America West livery is still more common on the aircraft. We didn't have to deal with any of that integration stuff here.

A few weeks ago a woman approached me in the jetway, upon boarding and started asking me about being a US Airways employee, yadda yadda. I just kinda looked at her and waited for her to stop talking and just said "I don't know about all that, I work for America West."

Naw, MDA employees considered themselves US employees, nothing more, nothing less...especially since they are/were.  wink

I like you, but I don't agree with what you did here. I realize you have a lot of pride in HP, and that is great, but like it or not, you are an US employee now. You should show pride with your current airline, especially during this time of integration. What does it look like to the customers when US's own employees still view themselves as two individual airlines, instead of one united new US Airways? When you are in front of employees, you should look like you take pride in the airline in which you make your announcements in. Even if you don't like being called a US Airways employee, keep it behind closed doors.

Sorry to go on a rant like that. I just want to see the merger succeed with both HP and US employees doing everything they can to make this a wonderful airline.  biggrin
