Kuwait Airways Fleet Renew

Sun May 07, 2006 5:43 am

Hi, I have a friend working in Kuwait Airways, told me that they are interested to purchase nine new Airbus 350 for long and medium range flights + five ERJ 170 for short range flights as a part of fleet renewal plan.

Any one can confirm?

Thanks.

Maybe these A350s will be leased from Alafco.
Never heard of the intention of the Kuwait Aw board about fleet renewal , simply they have said they were studying A350 and 787.Nothing more.
The ERJ170s order is quite a big surprise.

ALAFCO has ordered 12 A 350s so it would be no surprise if KU being a Kuwaiti company too got hold of a few of them.

But the A 350 is too big of an A 310-300 replacement but an ok AB6 replacement.

However if you posess the new JUSTPLANES dvd on Kuwait Airways, on disc 2 there is a long interview with the current KAC chairman and you can clearly see on that interview a huge Boeing 787-800 model on display  Wink

With USA helping out Kuwait so much with regards to the Iraq war, I would expect the current Bush Administration to play a key role in this order.

KUs AB6s and A 310-300s need to be replaced soon and neither the A 350 nor B 787 can delivered before 2012 to them therefore a perfect interim solution would be placing an order for A 332s which can be delivered by late 2007/early 2008 as this aircraft is a perfect replacement for both its A 310s and A 300-600Rs.

For the future, the newly proposed B 787-100X is a perfect replacement for its A 343s and B 772IGWs.

Kuwait Airways is on the verge of collapse, having endured tremendous losses since the first Gulf War.

They may be from an Arab/Oil country, but the company is bankrupt. Unless the Kuwaiti government is placing its guarantee on the financing, I don't see where the money could be coming from to finance such a purchase.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

And added competition in their home market from Jazeera, they're expanding slowly but very surely, heard their plan includes A330's soon.

I haven't heard about this, but I wouldn't be surprised if they consolidate their fleet to two types as part of a restructuring. It's quite similar to what MEA did. However I do think the E170 is a bit too small, the E190 IMO would be a better choice.
