Allegiant Question

Just curious as to what all the a.netters think about Allegiant. I love working for them, they are a great airline.

Also, when it comes time to upgrade the fleet, what do you think Allegiant will go after?

Well, I have only flown them once, IDA-LAS , 2nd day of ops in IDA last November.
I was amazed at number of folks getting off in IDA (120) and glad to see only about 75 going with me to LAS.
The flight was on time, nice, quiet, and enjoyable.
Inflight service was good, as well.
I think it is good that flight times have been changed to a midday service.
Glad to see G4 give SCK a shot. Used to live in the area 1979-80 when a carousel of carriers flew to SCK.
Would definitely fly them again.

I was very unhappy with an incident that happened on a charter awhile back (mechanical). After writing a letter and getting a response the next day, I would say that I was pleased with that. Not only that, they called about 5 times (and I never returned the call either!) That speaks volumes about them.

I have grown to really like G4, and on my last visit to Vegas was happy to see their mad dogs shining in the sun!

I would think G4 would be considering more MD's, but I would like to see G4 in a 320 or 737.

I flew Allegiant Air for the very first time one week ago today, from Ft. Collins to Las Vegas. The boarding process was very smooth, the flight departed a few minutes ahead of time, and the pilot was very generous in making in-flight announcements about our route. I didn't mind the fact that I had to pay extra to reserve my seat, in fact, it was worth it since I got priority boarding. I would not only fly Allegiant Air again, but I would definitely recommend it to others. Plus, if you live near a small airport such as Ft. Collins, it is so much easier to go through all the ground processing there than at a large major airport, such as at nearby Denver International.

Hmmm....I'm thinking 737-800s with winglets. Outside shot at A320s with winglets. Not sure when but soon. The Mad Dogs would probably migrate to the east coast operation.

I've never actually flown G4, but my friend tells me great service, on time performance is excellent, etc. and great loads from MFE!

Yes it is not daily. Yes it is only leisure travel to places like Vegas and Orlando. Yes it doesn't have the free amenities. Yes you cannot connect anywhere.

BUT G4 is an airline that thought outside the traditional models, keeps a close eye on markets working or not working and on their costs, and in turn has been profitable.

It gives me hope the US industry may find some new creative ways to offer service and be profitable.

While I haven't flown G4 yet, I'm very glad to have another (credible) airline here at ABE. Southeast, Hooters, and Pan Am III weren't exactly agreeable (or paying) tenants.

G4 is the perfect type of direct-leisure airline that many in the Lehigh Valley have been waiting for. True, they only fly 4x/week to/from SFB, but I've been lead to understand that they are filling their Mad Dogs quite regularly, which is excellent. My only real desire would be for them to also serve LAS from ABE, but seeing as their most easterly destination from their LAS base is LAN, I don't think that will be likely in the near-term.

I wish G4 all the best and hope that they don't try to grow beyond the niche they have made for themselves. Personally, I'd like for them to stick around ABE for a while.  Smile

Anyone know if Allegiant is getting any more gate space by chance in LAS?? Last time I flew in from CID we got stuck in a holding pad for about 20 minutes, and sometimes check-in lines are horrendous.

I heard LAS is expanding the D gates. What is going on with the A's?

I thought(correct me if I'm wrong) that their business model depends on low aircraft utilization, especially measured weekly. If this is so, they will probably stay with older model planes because of the lower capital cost.

Allegiant can occassionally get extra gate space on a temporary bases on the D side. The A side is locked up by USAirways/Am West. Allegiant really doesn't want to go to the old A gates. More space may become available when the next wing of the D gates is built. Right now the County DOA has determined that Allegiant doesn't need another permanently assigned gate at its LAS base. Allegiant really doesn't have to hold that many flights on the pad but it does happen for many reasons.

Got to see the MD-83 in SMF today. We dont get to see them that often. It was a charter, SMF-IFP. Love the noise those engines make!

SO Jeb94 are you hinting that the 737-800 longhorn ( that what it looks like with winglets) may find its way to G4 soon?

Yeah, last I heard construction should start this summer so it will be a little while before they are done.

I think the aircraft utilization rate is pretty good (not as high as many but not real low), it is the frequency of flights at stations that is low.

Except they also have to look ahead to fuel costs. With a low fare model they can't afford to allow fuel costs to get out of control. So there is talk of a need for a more efficient aircraft.

Before moving to the Seattle from Wichita, KS, my wife and I had flown G4 several times. Each time, the service had been great! G4 is so convenient and inexpensive. It's good to see this service around.

I'm amazed how much G4 has grown since I flew them the first time. At that time, LAS-ICT was their longest haul flight with their single MD-80. It was shortly after they mothballed their DC-9-20 (darn it!).

At that time, they had one round where they gave complementary drinks and snacks. Then a second cart had stuff where you could purchase stuff like candy, chips, games and even G4 t-shirts. I have one at home. I was actually kind of upset when they got rid of the "purchase" cart the next time we flew G4. I even wrote to G4 about it. Oh well.

I could fly G4 from BLI, but SEA is much closer to where I live. So, AS is more convenient and about the same price.

The success of Allegiant seems to be partially down to them being a full scheduled carrier with their own AOC. If you look at the likes of Hooters and PanAm they were/are scheduled charters and in some cases didnt even have thir own AOC but used another airline's. The stability and scheduled status of Allegiant would appear to inspire more confidence to book with them

All I can say is stay tuned Sunking737. This airline has taken on the same style of life as the city of Las Vegas. The only thing that can be constantly predicted is change.
