PA Flights Out Of DAL And DFW

Mon May 08, 2006 5:28 am

What were the schedules for DAL and DFW and did the PA 707s ever fly into DFW?

I do know that for a very short while there was a daily late afternoon flight JFK-DFW-ABQ and a morning return flight that was operated using a 727. The DFW-ABQ segment was dropped after a few months. If I am not mistaken, a few months, after that, PA went out of business.

PA flew DFW-MSY-MIA service twice daily with 72S aircraft during 90/91. They also had a 72S nonstop to JFK at that time.

I don't remember much if any service by the old PanAm (as such) at DAL or DFW, but the ones mentioned above I do recall.

Memory is playing tricks, but in early '70s, I believe PanAm had a overnight milk-run that went from IAH to ORD with about 4-5 stops in between. It was like IAH-DFW(or DAL if it was early '70s)-OKC(?)-MCI(or the old downtown airport)-DSM(?)-ORD. It was operated in a 707, but with an AA or BN flight and cabin crew. I remember I flew the airline the crew came from on the return trip a couple of days later...not on a PanAm aircraft.

Sorry to be so vague, but I lived in Houston on two different occasions and can't remember if it was early 70's or 80's. And while I remember Kansas City, I don't remember the other destinations.

Seems like this was before 'code shares' as we see today, so I actually think it was operated as a PA flight, but with AA or BN crew (again...sorry can't remember which). I just remember being young and so excited

Now I'm starting to doubt myself, but I just remember being you and excited that 1) it was a PanAm 707, and 2) to have one flight with that many takeoffs/landings.

Am I losing it or does anyone else remember this milk run???  confused

I believe there was a DFW-JFK-LHR route in 1982 and even a DFW-LGW flown with L1011-500s in 1982/83.

I don't think PA operated into DAL or DFW before deregulation. There was an interchange with Braniff however...DAL and maybe later DFW and IAH to LHR and FRA via ORD. Could have been a PA plane with BN crews on the domestic legs.

I saw a Pan Am timetable from 1975 that was only for Hawaiian flights, including service to the mainland, Asia and South Pacific. What was interesting is that Pan Am had one flight a week nonstop from Honolulu to DFW. I never knew this service existed and have no idea how long it ran.

Here's a picture of a card of DAL that shows a PA 707 at one of BN's gates around 1971. IIRC, this interchange or code-share type arrangement ended before DFW opened, though.

Check out the whole page on DAL and the whole site, too.

PA 58: Houston, DAL, ORD, LHR, FRA was one of the PA/BN interchange flights. Operated with a PA 707 and BN crews up to ORD.

Hey ORD,

I was hanging out as a kid at DFW in 75-79 and I don't recall this either. It was after 1982 before I saw PA at DFW and that was a 727 to MSY. I lost all of my old time tables in 1986. Thanks for the info.

The PA 747 service to MEX from JFK was through IAH.
