Time to solo

Wed Feb 17, 1999 8:40 am

To all of you pilots here how many hours did you have before you soloed? I will have about 30 hours and about 15 in my FAR 141 folder. CapK said he would have soloed in 10 hours I was just doing a bit of calculation. That would be 9 hours of learing a hour check ride. Was this under FAR 61 or 141? That would be really cool f you did solo in 10 hours but I think that would be hard to do. In the 3 hours you have what have you done?
I wish I had learnt to fly in the same time CapK did my father would have been very happy not spending 3 times as much!!1

In the early days people used to get soloed after about four hours but that was back in the twenties. I think I had about twenty hours when I soloed but I am going to have to look at my logbook to make sure. Going by the 141 program here I should have done it in about 15 by the book.

I heard that some people take 3 hours to learn cordinated turns decides climbs and straight and level. How does that tie in to the 15 hours. I have not looked at the cylibus (spelling) but if you take 3 hours to do all of that I do not think you can solo in 15 hours!

I'll pull out a copy of my old private part 141 sylabus and take a look. It doesn't do me much good now since I decided to switch schools. (This mandates a change to the part 61 rules). But I belive it all depends on how fast the person figures out how to do it.

My opinion of the sylabus is that it is a best case senario. If you go slow or lose flights because of weather then you end up taking extra hops to make up. This is something this is something the school seems to gloss over when parents are looking at the place.

At least the grounded all of their katanas.
