Yet another mile stone in the A380 program. After a rather slow start to the certification process.

Lets just hope that all goes well so that this beauty can make it into SQ fleet by the set target of November 2006.

According to PanAmDC10, one of the members I highly respect for his neutrality and his focus on gathering pieces of evidence, Mr Chew mentioned on a press conference today that subject to certification the A380 delivery for November is on schedule and that they are happy with the progress that has been made in that regard.

Seems things have been ironed out between A and SQ with regards of the A380.

Yeah that's funny! I was gonna say this is the first picture where the A380 is looking real elegant. But as they say:"in the land of the blind, one eye is king"......
There's still a long way to go before all the alliances deserve a star...

Not only it is great to see fly, even if it not the first time we see it fly, it is also interesting to see how the fuselage components were assembled. You can see that very well in the pictures Tom (Airbus A346) has posted.

But not with 3 Guppies in the background......

You mean Belugas - the Guppy was a 4-engined prop aircraft Big grin

The aircraft did its first flight from TLS for 2h 15mins and within the hour of landing, it headed to XFW where it landed 15:01 local time.

the first A380 distended to SQ

In the context of the A380, WINGS, that's a brilliant typo!

distend vb. "to expand or be expanded by or as if by pressure from within; swell; inflate." Wonderful!  Wink

Meanwhile, it looks like SQ aren't going to have the RR logo on their engines.  Sad

Would that be to be fitted with an interior and painted up.

Is this the fifth or sixth 380 to fly?

Oooops. Thanks for that PM.

It was meant to be DESTINED

1. To determine beforehand; preordain: a foolish scheme destined to fail; a film destined to become a classic.
2. To assign for a specific end, use, or purpose: money destined to pay for their child's education.
3. To direct toward a given destination: a flight destined for Tokyo.

What's up with the mismatched engine cowling on the number 4? I still think it's gorgeous, even though I'm a confirmed B777 man!

Also note the tail, which is fully painted right to the bottom, not like on the demonstrator (with decals) which visited SIN a few months ago...

I wonder if the SQ title will stay the same, I personally thought it looked rubbish on the demo livery. It was too big.

I wonder if this aircraft will ever have to have it's wings altered...
The only time I made a mistake was when I thought I was wrong...

OK I'm sure it's been discussed to death, but I'll ask anyway. If I wanted to fly on an A380 this year, what cities do you think SQ will start of with when they get their first bird?

Per SQ press release:

Singapore Airlines will be the first carrier in the world to fly the Airbus A380 in 2006. The A380 will first fly on the Kangaroo route, between London, Singapore and Sydney.

Reply 1,

This photo shows how badly the " Whalejet " needs the white paint job to give it some photo character. For all those folks out there that don't like the whale nickname, I would say that after looking at this picture, wideeyed  the name Stubby,Chubby ,or maybe Tubby  silly  could be used by the Airbust slammers.
Go 748 it will look great any color !

It has long been announced by SIA that SIN-SYD will be the first route - barring any further delay, this is expected to be in December 2006.

The first A380 is scheduled for delivery to SIA in November 2006 and prior to its inaugural commercial service, it will be utilised for crew familiarisation flights on regional routes (without passengers).

When sufficient aircraft are delivered to allow for a daily frequency to both SYD and LHR, the LHR service will be inaugurated.

If you read the article they're dedicating it to 'The Kangaroo Route'  Cool i.e. LHR-SIN-SYD

How did you come up with that? It's flown with a B772 at the moment and the flight is mostly filled with Japanese tourists who bought quite cheap tickets

I stand corrected - the aircraft landed at 16:01 local time - I forgot to add 2 hours to UTC and not just the 1 like I did! Big grin
