Korean Air Business Class Service

Hi Everyone... I have a quick question. I am flying this week from ATL-HKG via ICN on board KE 744s. Has anyone flown the service (Business Class) on the KE 744 and if so how was it? I do not think that the aircraft have the new updated interiors like the new 777s? Appreciate the feedback. Also have one leg on CX 773 HKG-ICN. Am booked in Y but am going to try and upgrade to C on that sector as it looks like thre are still 42 seats. I am BA Gold (oneworld Emerald) would they upgrade for free? Probably not but thought I would ask.

I flew CO and KE to Asia this past Christmas in biz class. Basically, CO has the way better seat but worse service, in that while efficient, it was a little cold and brusque. The seat on KE is no better than most domestic first seats, maybe a litle bigger, but the service and food were top notch. I had a rare steak on the way out that was actually quite good. Their flight attendants were more attentive, and much much better looking to boot.  biggrin  The purser always came by to make sure everything was good. Also, if they give you an aerosol can of water, apparently it is to humidify your personal space.

Flew KE last April business class SYD ICN LHR. Superb service, excellent crew, great food. We had the older seats, but it was still comfortable.

Ive flown many business class services over the last few years, and KE were the best.
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Happy Weekend everyone! Well I have completed the beginning of my journey and flown KE36 ATL-ICN and KE607 ICN-HKG. The first leg was conducted by HL-7495 a B747-400. The flight was completely full. I was in the Upper Deck. The seats have not been converted to the new generation ones yet on this bird. The flight crew were BKK-based (did not know they had anything except ICN-based), and I honestly must say they were the most attentive tht I have ever had! All airlines could take a lesson in this art of service! I noticed that when we arrived into ICN (after a long 14h10 flight), the place was being set up for the evening JFK non-stop service. The Prestige Class KAL Louge while very full was wonderful. All glass with excellent views of the tarmac and a wonder open bar and bountiful spread food! AS I wondered down to Gate 24 I saw sister-ship HL-7494 (B747-400) would take me to HKG. I was the first pax to board (it was only half full) and to my surprise it was a newly converted aircraft with the "sleeper pods" in Business Class. They are excellent seats and remind me of what QF have. Also the Video/Audio on Demand was awesome. I must say that I had reserves about taking KE. The price was 50% of what other carriers wanted! So now I am sharing my little secret to the world. Go give KE/Skyteam a try... I think you will like it!

You will not see the reconfigured KE aircraft on the Atlanta route for a while. I have been flying on KE035/036 for 5 years now. the flights are pretty full in Y but F/C sometimes are full and sometimes are empty. Right now, if you are flying to/from ATL the flights are pretty much full.

I wish they would put the new birds on the ATL flight, but right now LAX/JFK/ORD/SEA have been seeing the reconfigured aircraft.

You must have left on 12MAY, I came in on HL7495 on KE035/12MAY. It was about 98% full from ICN.

You are absolutely correct! I departed on 12May and I think every seat in each section was taken (at least in C class it was). Great flight and wonderful and attentive F/A's. HL7494 to HKG was the newly configured one. Not sure where it originated from but as you said probably JFK, LAX, etc. Poor ATL...but hey at least we have KE!

I didn't know that HL7494 has been remodelled. I bet KE's aircraft with new interior has internet accessible facilities, too, but recent picture of HL7494 on airliners database (which was taken on Feb 06) doesn't have satcom white "hat" on its roof. Since upgrading work takes about two months maybe this bird recently converted newly. Thanks for the info.

I've had a look at KE's new seats/cabins on their website, and it's rather nice.

Will all the 330/777/744 fleet be revamped ?? All with 3-classes sections ?

No, only for long-haul, 772ER and 744, will be. Of course 380s will have new F and C class, too. Actually 7~8 330s are running for long haul to SYD, BNE, NAN, SVO, PRG, AMS, ZRH, CAI, DXB and IST. I'm not sure if those destinations will see 772ER or new C class when 7 ordered 772ERs are delivered because KE has a plan to launch more long-haul cities with new 772ERs such as LAS (this Sep. or so, not confirmed) and MEX (next year, not confirmed).

Hmm thats interesting, i've always wondered about KE's aircraft configurations. For SYD, BNE, NAN, AKL and CHC served by 333's, 332's, 772's and 744's depending on the season i'm pretty sure P is sold as J and J sold as Y+. I also thought that the new 772ER's were going to be 2 class and used on these runs mainly?!

I have been on the updated interior A330-300 (HL7525 and HL7586). The interior layout is the same. Just new fabrics and the Boeing Connexion. Also the life vest dangles down right in the middle of the seat, this is in Y. Very annoying, I kept hitting it on my flight to/from CGK.

You're right. A newspaper says Korean air call center receives more than one hundred calls a day asking "can I enjoy AVOD and internet on my flight?". Except the listed flights you wrote, there are many routes that "randomly" uses the updated aircrafts. So complicated....

CGK-ICN is quite a long sector compared to transatlantic routes. But it is classified as a medium-haul and uses a plain 330. I hope AVOD is also available on 330s too, but sadly it appears not. (There was no AVOD in Y, right?)

Still it's a pitty KE's 332/333 won't be fitted with those new interiors... They fly very long sectors like PRG and AMS in Europe.

Tell me about it... Originally I was disappointed to get on KE016 instead of KE012 from LAX since I wanted to get the Connexion service internet inflight (the new interiors would've been a plus as well) but the F/As announced in-flight that the 772 we were on was Connexion-equipped! Believe me, it seriously made my trip! What was even more interesting in my trip was that KE 765 to CTS had onboard Connexion internet as well! Talk about luck in unscheduled Connexion flights!

Anyhow, my experiences with KE's Prestige Class was pretty short as I was flying just ICN-CTS. The F/As though were pretty nice and since our A330 had a First Class cabin, they pretty much had us C class passengers move up one cabin. It was definitely a positive experience with them!
