Wed May 10, 2006 7:32 am

AirTran Airways and the National Pilots Association, the union that represents the airline's 1,400 pilots, will resume mediated negotiations Tuesday in Orlando.

The talks are scheduled to run through Thursday and cover the sections of the contract involving on-the-job injuries, training, furlough rights, grievances, insurance and vacation.

The two sides are next scheduled to meet in Baltimore May 30-31. Negotiations on this contract began in December 2004.

Orlando-based AirTran is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AAI). It operates 600 daily flights to 50 destinations.

A year and a half now? I know the legacy carriers are just as bad but these long drawn out contract negotiations are crazy. We had a strike at SBC (now AT&T) and it was over mere dollars. It is amazing how intense these things can get with neither side wanting to budge.
