742+732 @VVI Now, Help With Registrations Needed

Wed May 10, 2006 9:20 am

At VVI (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) right now there are two aircraft I have never seen and I assume they might be targeted to be repainted for service with 5L (Aero Sur), although that is just my guess.

Does anyone at airliners.net know who the operators of these aircraft were and where they were registered, I cannot find any infos?

747-200: Marked 9Q CGI. This aircraft looks like it was taken from a desert resting point, it looks quite worn and it seems they were trying to clean-repaint it. It had on the right side marks RN, that was left of former marks, whereas the paint seemed to be from TAAG, which does not make sense.

737-200: I saw it the first time on April 13th, it has the registration number 3C-HAC, and no further marks / colors I cannot identify to former user.

Any feedbacks?

Hi 123, it looks like it is an ex Evergreen/Kalitta 747 that was in Wichita as of last week. Have a look here:

As for 3C-HAC, appears to be from Equatorial Guinea. More details here:

Hola 123!

I can't help you much with the 747, except that in the link it says that it hadn't moved under its own power for SEVEN YEARS.

With the 737, well, it's a historic one, in fact it's none other than the one that was to be operated by NEBA last year. She dates from 1969, and has flown no less than 64,500 hours and in excess of 92,100 cycles--the highest number of cycles of any Boeing 737 in the world.

I think the most appropriate word in Spanish to describe those two aircraft is basura (trash), I don't see AeroSur raking in profits if they place them into service, but that's just me...

Saludos,

Quoting LVZXV (Reply 2):

I really hope those aircraft are here just to decore the tarmac and that 5L will not fly them. It is my guess they will - the 732 is already on the company tarmac.

As to the 742, oh, well, I can avoid flying on that one

As to the 742, oh, well, I can avoid flying on that one too! I would not feel too comfortable. If I don´t turn on my vehicle for 7 years I have to change all sorts of parts. I wonder how a 742 would be in maintenance...

LATINAVIATION: Thanks for those superb links!

I first saw the 747 when landing at Viru Viru on a Taca flight from LIM-LPB-VVI on May 2, 2006. That was the first time I had seen a 747 in Santa Cruz. It was night time so I couldn't get a picture of it. But I did see it again both on Saturday and Sunday (May 6th and 7th) while waiting standby for my AA flight to Miami. I was only able to get pictures through the double-paned windows, so the pics aren't very good. There was a crew of at least 5 people cleaning the exterior of the 747. I thought that it might be used for the VVI-MAD flights that LAB had been flying until their financial troubles.

Here´s the picture of 9Q-CGI in transit in MTY, it loaded 98tons of fuel and rested all night here, no info about the owner, only know it´s last regs 9K-ADC and N708CK, pretty weird as all the paint was falling apart.

Am I the only one who finds it strange that an ex-Kalitta 747 Freighter is being put to passenger use? The windows are all sealed over, surely she won't be flying passengers, will she??

I don't think 5L is going to use this former cargo plane for any kind of passenger services. If yes - welcome to the european blacklist !
