Supersonic Biz Jets, SSBJ. 3 Front Runners W/pics

Dassault SSBJ. The tail is supposed to reduce the sound of the sonic boom greatly.

Aerion QST

A design by Gulfstream and Sukhoi. Right now i do not believe that they are working together but Gulfstream is currently doing research on an SSBJ

The top 3 from what i can find are the 3 top runners in terms of actually getting their ideas to fly, although i believe that Tupolev is taking their time.

I cant wait to see these machines flying, Dassault and Aerion project flight tests by 2012 and a price tag of around 80 - 100 million
A little bit more than your Gulfstream V

Cruise is supposed to be Mach 1.6 for the Aerion and Dassault SSBJ

Any ways, i think it is interesting. Anyone with any more info please let me know, i'd love to hear and see some new info about the SSBJ concept.

All ideas are welcome, hey, maybe soon we'll be arging over Dassault and Aerion instead of Airbus and Boeing, LOL

Regards,

Rob

Sweet photos! I wonder what a SSBJ would go for? Considering the G-V and BBJ are around $25-35 million. (I think).

The Projections from Dassault and Aerion are 80 - 100 million $$$$

I wonder how much Hourly Charter will cost. Probably upwards of $10,000 considering Challenger 604's are around $ 8,000. But hey, you'll get there MUCH MUCH quicker.

What kind of engines would these planes have? What about noise pollution? Sonic booms?

The amazing thing is that the Aerion QST is supposed to go supersonic with a pair of JT8D-219s!

We'll see how many of these actually fly. Then there is the current rules about going supersonic over land combined with fuel costs.

Engines?

Rolls-Royce/ Snecma Olympus 593s. Very proven technology.

Airframe?

>The Tupolev looks like it was made out of pig iron.

>The Dassault looks like a major mid-altitude icing problem.

>The Aerion looks like an F-104; back to the future.

>Gulfstream/Sukhoi? Never bet against Gulfstream and never dogfight a Sukhoi.

I can't help but think that today's economic situation makes all of these things economically unfeasible. They're all technologically feasible but too expensive to purchase, most likely too expensive to maintain, and almost certainly too expensive to keep fueled.

Well, in today's economic situation there are some fat cats at the top who could use and afford this product.

Are they taht much more expensive than buying a couple of BBJ or ACJs they'll be the next decades must haves for the uber-rich

It makes good sense if you think about it. Instead of 6 hours trans-atlantic to london it will be cut down to around 2-1/2 hours. As expensive as they may be it makes sense for the person chartering the airplane. instead of taking a gulfstream at $9,000/hour X 6 hours one could imagine spending $10-15,000 per hour X 2.5 hours. It will i think save money and time.

From what i have read

it makes good sense. The speed will make it economical. And the projections also see a need for 200 SSBJ's in the first 5 years of ops.

Interesting
