Status Of A350 Orders

Thu May 11, 2006 4:28 am

With the fifth version of the A350 about to be announced, what will happen to the current orders? It's no small deal to change plans by 2 years or more. Is anyone likely to drop their order?

If we stick to the firm orders, there's orders from 2 airlines that have the A350s scheduled to be delivered before 2012. An order for 10 from Air Europa, they're all scheduled from 2010 trough 2012. Also US Airways placed an order for 20, scheduled from 2011 trough 2014, wich averages 5 aircraft a year. Now if you take the 10 of Air Europe (should be less, as Air Europe will still be taking the A350 trough 2012) and the 5 of US Airways they were supposed to recieve in 2011 (5 as a yearly average based on 20 aircraft in 4 years), you will see that the situation on delayed aircraft deliverys will not nearly be as dramatic as others make it sound.

Those whose delivery schedules would be messed around by this delay will either cancel their orders, and doubtless get a refund, or find some interim lift solution, or stick with the A350 and keep their current fleet for a further 2 years. Until the A350 design, and delivery dates, are set in stone, we won't know just how badly current orders might be affected, and what the airlines which are affected will do. I'm sure Aribus are keeping all of them abrest of the situation, though.

Everyone says it's the fifth. What exactly were the first four?
