Airbus A350 Timeline?

Fri May 12, 2006 7:33 am

Greetings everyone,

With the news of recent weeks that Airbus is likely to debut a revised version of the A350, I'd like to compile a timeline of how the product has evolved over time. In a FI article, one analyst called this A350 Version 3.0, which led me to wonder, what has changed from the first A350, to the second, and to the third? These are the sorts of intruiging details that can be quickly lost with time, so I'd like to scrap them together into some sort of presentation.

I know it has gone something like this:

January 2003 - B7E7 debut, Airbus initial response to re-engine the A330
July 2004 - Airbus offers A330-200 "Lite" to SQ
November 2004 - Foregard presents A350 for the first time
December 2004 - Air Europa launch order
May 2005 - First talk of heavily revised A350 (V2.0?) for EK launch at Faranborough
June 2005 - Airbus wins major Qatar order
January 2006 - EIS date pushed back
May 2006 - Talk of additional A350 revisions, (V3.0)

The help I am looking for is any articles relating to the A350, any drawings/pictures, or any clips you may have of the A350. The differences between the A350 revisions is what I'm most interested in.

Thanks for any help, I hope to compile some sort of graphic timeline that I'll put on my homepage within a few weeks.

I've already got a sizeable collection of news articles, but none really go into tremendous detail about the changes the A350 design has made with time.

wish I could help, but I don't really have any detailed articles myself..I think part of the problem is because Airbus themselves have been a bit vague as to what the "old" and "new" A350 really is.....maybe we'll know more by Farnborough (at least regarding the all "new" A350)

Did you do the same for the B787 and the B747 ?

I did not check your homepage so far.

I plan on colating some of the A350 timeline with the B787, but for the most part, I've found much more documentation on the B787. The A350 less so. There's already a great site on the B747-X evolution through the 90s, so I don't see the need to duplicate Alan Mengus' work...

This timeline is a good idea.

Sometimes it is very, very interesting to see difficulties in airplane-programes after some years time and see how they were solved and in which time-period the changes happened.
