Aires Colombia - New Planes, Routes & Frequencies

Fri May 12, 2006 10:41 pm

Today I read on a Colombian newspaper about AIRES Airlines, (The little airline that could) that are getting new planes and starting new frequencies to cities in the Colombian coffee region and also to Panama from these cities.

Unfortunately the article doesn't explain about the new aircraft, only that are Bombardier - Dash 8, I am sure, as the entire fleet-, but does anyone have more information about it?

Article in Spanish:

On their website, they announce these frequencies starting on may 10th, but there is no mention about "new planes":

More info:
http://www.portafolio.com.co/port_se...B-NOTA_INTERIOR_PORTA-2882691.html

This article mention that in the next few days two "new" dash-8.

The article mention general information about the company:

- It is currently without any debt.
- Initially created (in 1981) to connect two cities in the south west of Bogota with the major cities of Colombia, now serves 24 destinations in Colombia and 4 international (Panama, Aruba, Curazao and Maracaibo)

In the upcoming weeks, the first Dash-8 will serve the new route Pereira-Panama.

For the third quarter of this year, the second Dash-8 should arrive.

Now the question that remains is: Dash-8 300? or 100?

"Acaba de inaugurar su hangar en el aeropuerto José María Cordova, con una inversión de 1.000 millones de pesos."

An aviation article by the press with no mistakes would be too good to be truth.

The new hangar is naturally in Medellin-Enrique Olaya Herrera airport [EOH]. Aires doesn't operate out of MDE at all.

You beat me to it Ricardo!
I was about to publish this.

We all knew Pereira has some potential regarding Panama, some people in this very same forum said Copa Airlines would be interested in such a service but Aires just beat them... now it'd be interesting to see if Copa would fly to Pereira in the end, and see how competence in that route would turn out to be...

By now, let's hope Aires succeeds in this new route, I'm quite proud of that little Airiline.
About the Airplanes, I'd think they're Dash8-300s, but I couldn't really tell.
Nor could I tell if they're totally new or used... anyways, I'm quite happy for this news.

Oh yes, I've always said so. Even Airbus stated in their webpage that the A380 went to Olaya Herrera EOH and said the A380 was being tested at 5000 feet and not Jose Maria Cordova MDE and 7000 feet !
I wrote them about it and they said that page was constantly changed, but they never changed that even though I gave them proper data.

Or when the Aires' Dash8 was hijacked at Bogota and they said:
"The Fokker of Aires was parked in the fourth runway of the military Airport of CATAM"

Most of you should have guessed now... but if you didn't I'll clarify.
Aires does not operate any Fokker, CATAM is not an Airport, it's only the military apron of El Dorado intl Airport of Bogota which only has TWO runways!.
Media sucks regarding Aviation... I've always said so, and Colombian media holds the gold medal in that!.

By the way, thanks for posting my pictures.
