Is LH Getting Rid Of Their A300's?

Sat May 13, 2006 7:42 pm

I just got accepted for a 2 weeks job in Brussels, supposedly reconfiguring the entire interior on a LH A300-600 for a new customer.
Is LH getting rid of this fleet? Or is it just this one aircraft?

What's the registration? LH won't get rid of the whole fleet anytime soon. The A300-600 is still a workhorse on domestic and European trunk routes.

Right, that's D-AIAX which was in service for Hagagfly between 06/2005 and 03/2006.

This has been discussed a lot recently, LH is not retiring its A300 fleet until they find a good enough replacement.
Their A300´s are in spotless condition, I flew them many times and you do not notice that they come into their years, the interior is clean and the planes are very well maintained.
Put a nicer crew into those planes and you will have a great flight.

The plane coming to Brussels should be the A300 for Swiss, since LH is not planning to introduce the new interior on their A300´s.

Have a great time during your job  bigthumbsup

cheers,

This probably is the LH aircraft that will be leased to Swiss - Swiss plans to use the A300 mainly on medium-haul African routes, so the A300 will need an interior upgrade and a premium class cabin......I am not sure if Hapag flew the A300 with a typical LH configuration or increased seats for holiday flights, but in any case, the aircraft needs some interior work before it goes over to LX.

Is LH going to phase out its A300 fleet? It does not seem so.....the A300 is still the best way to move lots of pax and cargo around on short haul flights....its ideal for intra-German hops and European flights. LH has looked at and rejected the lightest/shortest haul variants of the A330 (and several proposed A330Lite proposals that were not produced) and also tried out and passed on the 753 as potential A300 successors. Could the 783 be a possibility - maybe, time will tell. Some think that LH will not replace the A300 and instead increase frequency on the routes flown by the A300 - I disagree, most of the airports served by LH's A300 are crowded enough already, large cargo cannot be moved on narrow body aircraft, and slots are an issue at LHR and will become more problematic at airports such as FRA. The A300s are not going anywhere until a suitable replacement can be found.

Check out the following thread on Flyertalk.Com: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542399&page=3 apparently LH is considering refurbishing up to 4 AB6s, installing a long haul business class product in order to put them on routes to the near and middle east such as Cairo and Almaty.

As far as I know their first was delivered in 1987 and the latest in 1993.

The average fleet age is 17 years, with the oldest models being 19 years old and the youngest 13 years.

So there getting fairly old. How much of a priority for LH is it to replace them? As Dutchjet mentioned, could the B787-3 be a suitable replacement since the A330 has been ruled out in the past

Possibly, although even the 783 is considerably heavier than the A300-600. There is just no replacement for the A300, likewise the 757.
